"It never mattered where you made your stand. Only that you were there . . . and still on your feet." -- Stephen King

At 35 years of age, JavaElemental, formerly known as Charlene White (“Charlie”), thought she’d seen it all. She’d had an award-winning career as a photojournalist, specializing in war photography and other atrocities. She’d been to Vietnam, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Russia, Chechnya – everywhere there was death and horror, you would find Charlie and her trusty camera, snapping pictures.

When the first rumors of the Malton outbreaks began to surface in the underground medias of America, there was nothing for it but for Charlie to load up her equipment and sneak in, hoping for the pictures that would make her career. On her first night in Malton, she bashed a zombie to death with her camera, ruining the both camera and the zombie’s head in the process.

She survived on the run, having traded her bulky photography equipment in for guns and ammo, and a cheap digital camera she found in a ransacked mall. She huddled with other survivors over barrels of burning trash, in buildings which were slowly falling to ruin, eating things that even she hadn’t thought were edible. Just when she thought she couldn’t take it anymore, when she was ready to risk the military barricades for a chance to get out, she stumbled across Cuthbert (called “the Wise”). After apologizing for tripping over him in the dark of the building they were in, they exchanged stories, and Cuthbert told her about the team he was a part of, the Fortress.

“No, seriously,” he said, “there’s cheese. And tea. And a bar. I swear.”

Skeptical, but tired of living on the run, Charlie agreed to sign up. Cuthbert directed her to the secret location of the Fortress’s boot camp, where she would be taught how to live, survive, and rack up an amazing body count in Malton. When she arrived in boot camp, she was instructed to display her survival gear to Hogan, the boot camp trainer. Upon discovering that she considered her little espresso machine to be prime survival equipment, and then proving it by whipping out a round of Irish coffees for the boot camp trainees, Hogan christened her “JavaElemental”, and so she’s been known ever since. She graduated quickly out of boot camp and into Team Battlehawk of the Fortress, where she has since risen to the rank of Assault Officer and been appointed Commander of Team BattleHawk.
