I've finally turned this into an actual wiki entry. Behold...blood.

Notes

  • One cannot see or clean bloodstains in dark, unlit buildings.
  • Decay and blood work completely independently of one another.
  • Blood can be cleaned even if the building is ruined (confirmed for levels 1-3).
  • Levels 1 - 2 can be cleaned with zombies standing in the room. At levels 4 and 5, standing zombies must be cleared from the room before the blood can be cleaned. Unsure of level 3, but likely uncleanable.
  • It costs 1 AP to clean each level of blood.
  • Cleaning is incremental. Upon cleaning one level of blood, the player encounters flavor text indicating the next level. Cleaning blood is thus unlike the "all-or-nothing" action involved in repairing ruins.
  • Any successful attack has a chance of causing bloodstains; one does not have to actually kill another character to create them.
  • Not every successful attack will add to bloodstains. The exact percentage chance is unknown.
  • It takes more than one successful, blood-spattering "hit" to increase the level of blood. The exact number of hits required for each level of increase is unknown.
  • Blood changes from "fresh" to "dried" at the server reset.
  • Fresh bloodstains can overlay dried bloodstains.
    • If the "hit" is not enough to increase the amount of blood to the next blood level, the transition will be thus: dried level X --> mixed level X. (Further hits will result in "mixed level X" transitioning to "mixed level X+1")
    • If the "hit" is enough to increase the amount of blood to the next blood level, the transition will be thus: dried level X --> mixed level X+1
  • Injuring/killing zombies does not appear to create bloodstains.

Questions

  • Does attacking a zombie create bloodstains? Attacking a zombie does not appear to cause bloodstains; controlled testing is necessary to prove conclusively.
  • Are fresh bloodstains cleaned before dried bloodstains? Fresh and dried bloodstains are cleaned simultaneously, if of the same level. It is highly probable that mixed X transitions to mixed X-1; controlled testing is necessary to prove conclusively.
  • Can two sets of dried bloodstains overlay one another? Or do fresh and dried bloodstains end up compounded with one another at the server reset? It is highly probable that any mixed bloodstains transition to dried bloodstains upon server reset (mixed X ---> dried X). A controlled observation is necessary to prove conclusively.
  • What creates the flavor text visible from the outside? Attacks inside (and if so, what level is needed?), or attacks outside?
  • What is the percentage rate for a successful attack to cause a blood-spattering "hit"?
  • How many blood-spattering "hits" does it take to "up" the level of blood? Does the number of hits necessary increase for each level? (NB: It DOES take more than one successful hit. See notes on observed conditions and transitions. How else could "flecked with dried and fresh" coexist with an observed transition from dried 4 to mixed 5?).

Observed Blood Text

Numbers after the descriptions indicate probable levels.

Transitions of note

  • "The floor and walls are stained with splashes of dried blood" (dried 3) --> "The floor is a slick, broken mess of dried and fresh blood" (mixed 4). (Important: it did not have to transition to "mixed 4" first).
  • "The floor is flecked with dried and fresh blood" (mixed 1) --> clean. (Important: it did not have to transition to "dried 1" first).
  • Obvious bloodying transitions: fresh level 1 --> fresh 2 ---> fresh 3, etc. etc.
  • Obvious cleaning transitions: fresh 5 --> fresh 4 ---> fresh 3, etc. etc. dried 5 ---> dried 4 ---> dried 3, etc. etc.

Question: does injuring a player outside cause this? Or is this merely a visible sign of carnage inside? Can one clean these bloodstains from the outside, or are they internal?
