Life of a Zombie

Few stories ever tell you what a zombie goes through in its life time, mostly they deal with the struggles of survivors. Not this time. This is the story of a zombie's life, for once. Although it doesn't go there immediateley, it'll get there, don't worry. --Modernplague 21:33, 31 May 2008 (BST)

Richard Williams was driving to work one day. He was a simple office worker, who had moved to the city of Malton from some small, rural town miles away. He had hoped to make a new life in the suburb of Ridleybank. But today, he was stopped by a road block consisting of a razorwire fence on his way to work. A couple of soldiers in a really weird uniform were there. One approached him and said, "Sir, I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to turn back. This suburb is currently under quarantine, and we can't risk anybody getting out." "What on Earth are you trying to contain?! And who sent you? I know you're not from the government, you're not wearing the right uniform!" he replied, angry. "I'm sorry, sir, but that is classified information, and if you don't turn back, we will be forced to use bullets." "Fine, asshat!" But just as Richard was about to turn back and go home, the other soldier yelled, "We've got a couple of rotters!" Richard looked back to see the most disgusting sight in his life. Three people were approaching the fence at a slow pace, with huge wounds. One had a hole in his chest, and was missing an arm. Another had a hole in their gut, and their intestines were hanging out. The last one looked to be a teenage girl, missing both arms and a chunk of her head. Both the soldiers moved behind Richard's vehicle. The two soldiers acted quickly, spraying bullets at the zombies. They looked like Swiss cheese by the time they got to the soldiers, but that didn't stop them. The soldier Richard talked to was the first one to die, as he got cornered next to the vehicle by the zombie with its intestines hanging out and the teeange girl, and was brutally torn apart and eaten. The zombie with a hole in its chest approached the remaining soldier, who managed to hit it with the butt of his rifle. The other two zombies then approached him, but he wasn't so lucky this time. He manged to shoot the one with its innards out in the head, whereupon it fell, but as he sprayed bullets at the girl, he ran out of ammo. As he was reloading, the girl saw her chance and bit him on the shoulder. He screamed in pain as he fell to the ground, the girl feasting on his shoulder muscles. Richard backed his car over them, and stopped the car. All five were dead. He got out and went to the soldier that had told him to turn back. Perhaps he had some answers.
The body was in horrible shape, with only the left arm still attached to the torso. Richard dug into the pockets of the man, and discovered a wallet with a NecroTech ID card, identifying him as Mark Fuller, the head of security, and a piece of paper that looked like a memo. It stated, "Mr. Fuller, there has been a breach of security in Zulu. The police have been alerted, and, when given the signal, will begin quarantine. Send half of your men down to Biosafety Level 4 Lab 6, and send the other half to evacuate the building. When done with that, if your men are unable to contain the breach, we ask that you and the rest of your men aid the police in maintaining the quarantine." That was all Richard could take. He dropped the paper and was about to go back to his vehicle when the soldier grabbed his arm andbit him. He screamed and kicked to no avail. He then grabbed the man's pistol and shot him in the head. Now released from the dead man's bite, he took the gun and ran into the nearest building.
Slamming the door behind him, he looked around. He was in an office building. He walked down the corridor, and yelled, "Hello? Anybody there?" He got a moan from upstairs in response. He went upstairs and opened a door. "Hello? Are you hurt? Hello?" he said. Suddenly, a large group of zombies came out from the corner of the cubicles. He shot blindly, killing a few zombies before he ran to the back of the room to find a special manager's office. He went through the door and shut and locked it. He heard chewing noises from behind the desk, and he went around to find an office worker nibbling on his boss. Richard fired and hit the head three times, killing the creature. He then heard something from the bathroom. He went in and found the secretary, crawling towards the door. He pulled the trigger, only to find that he ran out of ammo. He then dropped the gun and closed the door. Richard sat beside the desk as the zombies beat on the door, and the infection went through his body, slowly killing him.
Richard woke up. He could remember everything that happened, and yet he didn't feel anything, physically or emotionally. All he felt was a strong urge to feed, a yearning for flesh. He got up and banged on the door until it finally caved, and left the building. He looked at the fence, still up and keeping him from what he needed to get to. He went up to the fence and beat and pushed on it until it gave in and let him through.
Upon getting through the fence, he went around attacking people outside of Ridleybank, spreading the disease to the rest of Malton with the help of his fellow zombies that had also managed to bypass the fence. He broke open the heads of men, women, and children. It didn't matter who he went after, scientists, consumers, police officers, soldiers, he was able to kill them, regardless of their weapons, which only caused a few unsightly holes. He eventually joined a horde to hunt with, and helped to kill dozens of humans.
Richard and his horde were in the suburb of Penny Heights. They were approaching a building that smelled as if it had hundreds of humans in it. They crowded around it, and they banged at the entrances until they finally gave in. They poured in, killing, eating, and infecting many. The survivors fought back, killing many of Richard's horde. Eventually, however, the humans retreated into the night, leaving behind their building. Richard's horde, though victorious, was almost completely decimated. He and the remainder of his comrades disbanded, every zombie going his own way.
A week later, Richard was getting hungry. He went up to a building that had lights on inside, and smelled like human deliciousness. He started banging on it and moaning for help, but help never came. After a while, the barricades fell, and he was able to go in. He attacked and began to eat a survivor, when another survivor shot him in the head. Afterwards, Richard was dumped outside. His final resting place would be the incinerators of the military cleaning crews sent to clean up after the quarantine was over.
