The Malton Small Business Association (MSBA) was a non-for-profit community of business owners. The primary function was to advocate for common interests and to uphold standards of quality in products and services. Their efforts were routinely lauded by the citizens and government.

The MSBA: Awards for Excellence where presented every December and were coveted prizes. They were awarded for exemplary performance in several categories. Particularly sought was the Award for Excellence in Community Service, given for sponsoring (and leading) youth-league sports.(yet another battleground for the friendly rivalries among the local businesses) One can still be seen in Culling Auto Repair in Roftwood, and another in Curton Mansion in Chancelwood.

The efforts of the MSBA, combined with that of the Malton Manufacturers Association, the Malton Commerce Committee, Malton Merchant Society, Malton Rail, local legislators, and local labor unions, helped promote the vibrant commerce which once enriched the city and the region.

In Malton today, these organizations have no relevance.
