Starting my first guide online because I'll be updating as I go and I might as well get it into wiki markup form the start. I'll be writing off-the-cuff and worrying about editing later.

The Definitive Zombie Guide

Now that you have decided to become a zombie, this guide will tell you your starting choices, discuss skills and share general zombie strategies. While reading this guide keep in mind that your mileage may vary. I have gone through many characters and tried each class and what you see below is a kind of synthesis of these experiences.

Starting a New Zombie

When starting a new zombie you have several choices of how to proceed.

The most obvious is to create a fresh Corpse and start your unlife. However, if you want to "be all you can be" as a zombie you will likely want to consider starting as a Survivor instead.

Of the eight survivor classes two are best for starting a new zombie and one is so-so. The best classes are Doctor and NecroTech Lab Assistant (NTLA) with Police officer being the runner up.

The other classes are a poor choice for a player who's true goal is to be a zombie because they require a significant investment in gaining exp and getting skills to help them obtain the required collection of items and XP that are useful for a zombie.

Starting from the bottom up, the Polce officer is a somewhat acceptable choice only because he starts with a flack jacket, which is the hardest item in the game to find. You may think that between that, the Radio and Basic Firearms Training a Police officer is a solid choice, but due to the bad Rand Number Generator (RNG) in Urban Dead you will spend much longer scrounging for ammo and trying to gain xp than if you were searching for a flack jacket in the first place.

The two survivor classes we have left are the Doctor and NTLA. The number one reason they were chosen is that they require very little setup to start gaining experience. The basic difference between the two classes is that playing an NTLA is riskier but potentially faster while a Doctor is slower but safer.

As I mentioned above, when pitted against the NTLA in a race the Doctor is the tortoise: slow but steady in his xp gain. The main strategy while playing a doctor is simple: search lit Hospitals only for FAKs and heal Survivors for xp. The drawbacks are that you have to rely on the bad RNG and actually finding wounded people to heal. The benefits are that the only time you are exposed to danger is if the zombies make it past the barricades and other survivors crowding the building with you.
