Ed "The Zed" Zedursky was a normal firefighter for the city of Malton. When the zombies appeared, they wiped out nearly his entire crew and took over the entire station. He and his buddy Chaz "Spazzy" Spessburg were the only ones to escape, and they quickly understood how deadly the zombies could be. Chaz was later killed in a zombie swarm that engulfed an entire neighborhood, Ed barely made it out alive.

Ed went searching to find the whereabouts of his loved ones. He sadly discovered that his parents had been shot, probably by a man driven insane by the sight of zombies killing his family.

With nothing left to live for, Ed let the zombies take him. After becoming a walking corpse, Ed wandered the streets for a while before someone revived him. Ed came to realize that there was no death anymore, and he could only choose to be a human or a zombie.

Ed chose humanity.
