The following is the third part of a personal account by Roftwood local ZombGG [1] about the first week of The Great Scourgin' of Roftwood, February 2018. Catch Part I & II here!
PART THREE
February 6, 2018
I awake still a great deal exhausted from yesterday’s battle at The Herbert Building AND am suddenly in the middle of a 7 zombie breach at Hildebrand Mall’s SW corner.
Critically low on Action Points and with only half HP, I have no choice but to evacuate. Much to my surprise, the Herbert Building has been reclaimed!
Well sort of reclaimed. There are no more zombies inside, the building has been extremely heavily barricaded, and there are only a few of us survivors inside.
There is a very creepy chill in the air that I have found natural from being inside powered-down NecroTech laboratories. I never like it.
The remnants of morally questionable experiments lurk all around in the shadows, sometimes I swear some of them are watching me o.0
I force my head away from the dark spooky labs and onto the war effort. Armed with spray paint, I do my part spreading pro-survivor propaganda, urging my Roftwood brothers and sisters to hold The Herbert Building and purge The Scourge from our homeland!
Roftwood local Clementine Lane[2] tends to my battle wounds.

The most brutal aspect of the Scourge is their commitment to twice a day X:00 strike tactics. Especially first thing in the morning, every damn morning. The psychological effect of regularly waking up in panic is wicked and compounding.
I awoke this morning, like the past many, with the Scourge at my bedside. In full fright, I flee the Herbert Building suffering only minor wounds and an infection.
This Ted ‘Cruz[3] character is a Scourge death cultist. Not only did he destroy our barricades from the inside, but he gave us his best zombie impersonation (horrifically dreadful, you had to have been there) right before PKing my good friend Tess Eks!
Seeking medical attention and shelter, I check into the Roftwood Coordination Center. It is there I gather the grim news of the desperate situation at Eligius General Hospital. My pal Imgonnadiesoon[4] aka Sunflower of the Malton Medical Staff, who was on location this morning, had this to share –
The Scourge seemingly split their horde of ~15 and struck Herbert and Eligius around the same time! Our friends at Eligius General were in the middle of a firefight with 8 zombies.
Making my peace with The Herbert Building yet again, I jump full-fledged into the action at Eligius General Hospital. A few hours later I witness a most harrowing and grotesque sight… a monstrous 19 zombies ripping apart everyone inside!
Once the shock left my system and my reasoning came back online, I figured this must be the full force of the Scourge to achieve a horde of such massive size. They must have pulled their entire rank from the Herbert Building in a big time effort to put the nail in the coffin here at Eligius General...
I set out to investigate my hypothesis and discover I am correct! Herbert is empty, repaired, and fully barricaded! However, my instincts warn against me spending another night here (nothing to do with my phobia of powered-down NecroTech laboratories xD).
I seek refuge first at Quartly Library in northern Roftwood, slightly away from the immediate mall area where all the heavy battling is happening. I have always loved the role Quartly Library plays in the city of Malton. Personally I am a big time advocate of the "Truce" at Quartly and possess tremendous respect for the Rules of the Library (especially Rules 1, 2, 4 & 5)!
The idea that Quartly Library serves as place of ultimate sanctuary for all players, survivors, zombies, and PKers alike, greatly enthuses me! It adds a unique dimension to the game that reminds me a lot of "Papa Midnite’s Club" in the Constantine universe or “The Hotel Continental” in the John Wick universe.
However upon arrival, I noticed things are strange... The barricades are at extremely heavily, a gross violation of the 2nd Rule of the Library: Do not build barricades unless absolutely necessary. Barricades impede our zombie patrons.
I am not alone it witnessing this. Scourge death-cultist penguinpyro[5] also scouted out the library this evening[6]
Just because we happen to be in a state of war, does not mean we have to completely disregard our civility. It is my belief that all players should enjoy the sanctuary of Quartly Library, unless they are on the Quartly Study Group’s On Notice List.
Wanting nothing to do with this hateful act, I seek shelter elsewhere. I find my ally Murderess[7] in a nearby factory and settle down.
After not even a two hour snooze, I awake to find Doom Hound[8] of the Scourge in survivor form.
With his final breath of life, he mocks ENVY for allegedly reviving him, and dies from an infection.
Shortly, Doom Hound rises from the dead as a zombie and is joined by his fellow Scourge brother and death cultist penguinpyro...
Who PKs Murderess[9] with a shotgun :C
Tension in the factory is extremely high. Murderess rises from the dead as a zombie too, and with great fervor!!
She is immensely impassioned by Doom Hound's slander! How dare he make such vile claim against her crew of professionals!
After relaying this outrage among the ENVY ranks, she is quickly joined by her brother in arms Flash Dave[10] -
Who is quick to return nefarious words[11].
What a draining and dreadful day this has been!! Not a moment went by without some Scourge-born chaos haunting me like a dark cloud!
February 8, 2018
I awake to much chatter at the Roftwood Coordination Center. Apparently something big went down at Quartly sometime late night or in the early hours of this morning? I set out to investigate and discover the library absolutely ruined, splattered in blood, smeared in gore, and littered with dead bodies! The only things standing beside myself are a few zombies from the Scourge, presumably leftover from their recent assault.
Debrah Jones[12] of ENVY captured the event on her dumbwit[13]
This savagery struck my nerves deeply because again the Rules of the Library have been disgustingly violated, this time by zombies. I took my emotions to the wiki and soon wrote a more detailed version of The Quartly Tragedy here ultimately in an effort to remind everyone of their civility, time-honored traditions, and how cool this game can be when we respect the library.
To end another maddening day in Roftwood, I force myself to relax in the comfort of Neal Cinema with my good friend Imgonniediesoon[14] aka Sunflower of the Malton Medical Staff and unwind to a movie.
But alas there is no rest for the wicked as Roftwood local madman BA Naner[15] found me worthy of testing his fire axe on AND THEN, just as the hacking had ceased, and I thought I could finally get some shuteye, I am slapped in loving fashion with a newspaper by my pal Sunflower xD
SUMMARY
This installment begins with Hildebrand Mall falling to The Scourge and survivors beginning to rebuild The Herbert Building yet again. The next morning, Eligius General Hospital and the Herbert Building are both breached as the Scourge splits their horde in two and simultaneously X:00 strikes both targets.
Herbert falls quickly. Survivors bravely stand off the Scourge for a few hours before the Scourge rally their ranks from their victorious strike on Herbert and overwhelm the defenders with a titanic horde of 19 zombies.
Both factions are guilty of grossly violating the time-honored “Truce” of Quartly Library. This leads to me publishing my angry account of The Quartly Tragedy.
And finally I learn that I cannot even catch a movie with a friend in peace xD / T_T
Thanks for reading! Be sure to follow my other works here!
I leave this last note for my readers from the Scourge. I hope that in your future visits to Quartly, you may practice your civility by excluding this ONE building in Malton from your path of killing every living thing :P
