'Ello!

Hey, I noticed you signed up for Project Mentor! Good on ya'! Anyway, I personally can't help you for about a week and a half. But, if you don't feel like you can wait for me to help you, then these guys are good candidates as mentors. Let me know, either here, or my talk page, if you'd rather just wait for me to help you. Okay? Have a good time!-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 22:49, 19 April 2008 (BST)

Alright mate, I be done with my "real life" stuffs, so anything you desperately need help with? Or just plain help?-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 22:57, 28 April 2008 (BST)

Just plain help I guess, I don't really know how to do anything on a wiki. This is like my first one :(

Okay. Lesson one, always remember to sign your posts. There are few times when you aren't supposed to sign them, but we won't worry about them now. To sign, you either type in four of these buggers: ~ or press this Button sig.png button before you save.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 23:46, 28 April 2008 (BST)

Like this? Iceykiller 23:48, 28 April 2008 (BST)

Perfect! Now, lesson two, when continuing the same thread of conversation (I.E. Like now, when I'm tutoring you), its considered standard form to indent your next post, as it makes it easier to follow where the conversation is heading. To indent, you throw down one of these numbers (Bolded) :
And each new post means another colon. So the third post (The first post doesn't get a colon, the second one gets a single colon) would get two colons. Like so ::Whatever you want to say.
So, try it out.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 23:53, 28 April 2008 (BST)
That's handy :D
Before lesson three, I have a specific question: how do you get that cool kinda signature. It looks all cursive with purple. I would LOVE a loopy red one =D Iceykiller 23:56, 28 April 2008 (BST)
To make these kickass, shiny signatures, your best bet is to follow the instructions in this guide. It's a bit of a longer process, and its easier to look through it, as Dux (a guy who wrote a good chunk of the guide) is much better at explaining things than I am. Any questions though, or if you get stuck, then I'll do my best to help.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 00:05, 29 April 2008 (BST)
Awesome! Now what's lesson three? Or is there one? Any subject you explore is pretty much a lesson for me, as I am a total noob atm D= Iceykiller 00:16, 29 April 2008 (BST)
Well, lesson three would be to read the help articles, if you haven't already. Other than that, you pretty much know the basics to editing. All thats left is for you to ask me any questions you want answered. Oh, and not like you need to be reminded, but proper spelling and grammar are a good thing to develop (like I said, you have it covered), and English is the preferred language 'round here. :). Though some users, like Kommissar Hugnutz speak in their native tongues to certain people.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 00:25, 29 April 2008 (BST)
Oh oh, one more thing!
I see all over the place (the suburb info, the profiles, the skills areas, etc.) these little contents boxes. And at each part of the contents box, there is a giant line with bigger letters to issue the start of a new section. You know what I mean? How do I do that?
I'm assuming you mean things like my "'Ello" header up there? to do that, you'd put a certain amount of = on each side of the header message. 1 of = is a level one header, 2 is a level twop, and so on and so forth. Example: ==lolque?== produces:

lolque?

That what you looking for?-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 00:35, 29 April 2008 (BST)

Ya that, and the contents box. I wanna know how to get one of those! I plan on like writing stories for people to read. I like writing, it's good to get criticism every now and then other than just writing to yourself. O_O Iceykiller 00:47, 29 April 2008 (BST)
Can you give me an example of what you mean by content boxes? There are a ton and a half of different boxes around here. :D -- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 00:55, 29 April 2008 (BST)
On the skills page theres something like this:
Contents [hide]
1 Skill Groups
1.1 Living
1.1.1 Civilian skills
1.1.2 Military skills
1.1.3 Science skills
1.1.4 Zombie Hunter skills
1.1.5 All human skills
1.2 Dead
1.2.1 Zombie skills
2 Completing the Skill Tree
I dunno how to copy the whole box, just the writing. But there's a box around all that and ya that's about it :/ Iceykiller 01:08, 29 April 2008 (BST)
Ah, you mean the table of contents box! Thats pretty easy. Just use something like

{| style="background-color:grey;" align="right" | __TOC__ |}

To copy and paste it, first click the edit button, and copy the code that you see between the nowiki tags, not the text you see right now. If you want to change the colors, I'll show you how to tomorrow, as I'm going to be getting off soon, and I don't want to start on something and not finish it.

Got it all? If not, we'll get it working. Don't worry.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 01:21, 29 April 2008 (BST)

What are no wiki tags? The {}?
No wiki tags are the <nowiki> </nowiki> things around codes and texts. It keeps the coding from actually rendering, letting you see the coding in its base text form.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 02:04, 29 April 2008 (BST)
Aight, I think I'll make a folder with a bunch of word documents to sort out everything I learn. It'll be useful for remembering those complicated commands (like that one).
Once I do that, is it okay for me to clear my talk page? I don't want people to have to read over my newbish aqcuisitions XD Iceykiller 02:56, 29 April 2008 (BST)
You can clear your talk page anytime, it's your talk page. But it's better form to archive them. Archiving is taking all the text, and putting on a new archive page in your user subspace. Like this is my archive. And if you're doing it because you don't want people to see your newbishness, than I must say, it won't matter. People can see all the talking we've done by using the History tab at the top of the page. Using that, you can see just about every edit ever done to a page. Unless the history is purged by the wiki system. Got all that?-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 21:45, 29 April 2008 (BST)
How do I remember all the subspaces I make? And where do I put in this "User:Iceykiller/archive" thing at? Iceykiller 00:14, 30 April 2008 (BST)
Well, one way would be to just remember it. Another would be to write them down. another, would be to make a Navigation bar, like I have on my page, and have everything linked through it. And the archive thing? Well, you know up in the address bar? Right after the User:Iceykiller, you would put /Archive. So it'd look like "http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/User:Iceykiller/Archive". Once there, you copy paste all the code/text into it, then delete it from here. Or, alternatively, follow this link. Then copy paste it like before. Got it?-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 00:15, 30 April 2008 (BST)
Right, but I'd only do that with important stuff, of course? Iceykiller 01:02, 30 April 2008 (BST)
You mean archiving right? If so, then what I say is: Archive whatever you want, whenever you want. Hell, you don't even have to archive anything. It just makes it easier to talk about past conversations if they're archived. Its all just user preference really.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 01:07, 30 April 2008 (BST)
