Description

History

Originally a warehouse built in the 1930s, then converted into a military barracks for a time, before finally being torn down and rebuilt as a block of flats in the seventies, mostly lived in by parents of students of the nearby schools. A fire in recent years gutted the flats that had stood there, and both the nearby school and fire station planned to purchase this block of land after the fire. Authorities refused to allow any sale to go ahead while rumours of corruption within the fire station were investigated; questions, it was said, had to be asked how a block of flats a stone's throw from the station could be allowed to burn to the ground. Thus, the planned auction was delayed indefinitely while police, planning authorities, senior fire chiefs, the media and more than a few amateur sleuths pieced together the evidence to try and discover if there was any truth to the rumours of corruption. It was during this investigation that the outbreak started, scuppering all development plans and leaving the block a wasteland.
