History

Formerly a molasses factory; destroyed in the Great Fire of 1912 - not to fire damage, but rather to a horrific train crash that ruptured the molasses tanks and drowned the entire factory in a wave of sugary syrup. Attempts to remediate the land were thwarted by legal issues and lingering molasses contamination; the area was officially declared a wasteland in 1942.

On hot days, you can still smell the molasses.
