Western Malton Coalition for a Grigg Heights Mall is a loose organization of concerned citizens and lobbyists who wish to see western Malton's commercial opportunities flourish. The stated goals of WMCGHM is to inform western Malton's citizens and business interests of the benefits of a new mall in Grigg Heights to revitalize our fine region's economy.

Why a new mall?

There are fifty-one blocks of malls in the eastern half of Malton, but just twenty-six in western Malton. The economic implications of this are obvious, although there are subtleties of the issue that go often overlooked. Western Malton residents don't just have less malls to shop at, they also have to travel further to get to the few malls they have. Shopping trips for those unwilling to move from their homes results in greater traffic congestion, pollution, and wasted AP. Those that do end up moving from their homes to get to closer commercial centers drain the populations of many suburbs and cause overcrowding and resource scarcity in areas surrounding our few malls.

Why Grigg Heights?

A new mall would fill a gap in the overall locations of Malton malls

The reasons we have selected Grigg Heights for a new major shopping center in western Malton are threefold. First, Grigg Heights is far from the other malls western Malton, maximizing a new mall's share of the market, and minimizing competition with other malls. In a sense, it is a completely untapped market. Secondly, it's position would place it near to the border of the quarantine zone. As Malton currently has no other malls in any western-most suburbs, this mall would be a boon to those suburbs that have been neglected the most economically. And third, due to its closeness to the quarantine border, the construction costs would be reduced for such a large construction undertaking. Materials can be airlifted in at a minimal cost, and construction debris from the project can be easily pushed outside the quarantine zone.

Where would this new mall be located?

After carefully examining the choices, the location selection committee determined that the 2x2 area [1, 53] to [2, 54] would be ideal. In order to provide proper access to the new mall without disrupting traffic patterns, The Wakeford Motel will also need to be bulldozed and paved. The location selection committee recommends naming this new road Wakeford Street. In addition, the new mall can be constructed where only roads now exist. Existing gas, power, and water lines can be rerouted and integrated in the new mall's own foundation, and a minimal destruction is required before groundbreaking.

When will this new mall be completed?

Unfortunately due to various red tape and financing issues, the construction of a new Grigg Heights mall cannot begin immediately. It is our goal, however, to have designs, permits, and financing ready for a spring 2009 groundbreaking, with a grand opening by late summer 2010. But before this can happen, we need your help to lobby for this new mall and raise funds for such an undertaking.

What will this new mall be called?

As Grigg Heights has a proud musical culture and history, the current plan is to name the new mall after a famous musician. Suggestions are welcome, and a name selection committee will narrow down the suggestions to between 2 and 5, for a final vote sometime in fall 2008. Please use the contact information in our group box at the top of the page to send in your suggestions.

How can I help?

We hope to hold a series of informal outdoor meetings every month in the planned site for the new mall to educate the Grigg Heights populace and anyone else on the advantages of a new mall in their neighborhood. Local business interests, larger franchises, and all voters and consumers are welcome to attend or speak your support, and of course we will be collecting donations and signing business contracts at all of these events. We also encourage interested citizens to speak to their friends and neighbors, post signs showing support outside their safehouses, and keeping our messages active on the five blocks we hope to transform. Of course, all zombies in the immediate area of the new mall site should be cleared out as soon as possible, or at the very least given hard hats before construction begins.

We are also currently trying to locate the deed holder of The Wakeford Motel, who is currently missing and presumed zombified. If you have any information on the whereabouts of the deed or its holder, please contact us. It's quite possible that the deed holder (in whatever state of life or undeath he or she may be in) may have moved far away, but since the Grigg Heights mayoral council is only willing to work with the current deed holder of The Wakeford Motel before permits to bulldoze it can be acquired, our efforts to build a new mall are seriously hindered until we locate the owner. If you are trained in NecroTech DNA extractors, please help us track them down. If you are a voter, please vote yes on question 8 in the upcoming referendum to make eminent domain laws apply to major commercial undertakings, and help us lobby for the rezoning of the blocks we wish to build on.

We are currently in need of a witty slogan and a colorful symbol for our formal stationary and groupbox.

And of course, those with the construction skill are more than welcome to help us on our project once construction gets underway.
