Ackerman Walk
Description
There is very little to say about this street, other than that it was named for John Ackerman, a local and much loved politician and philanthropist. It was renamed from Walker Lane after John Ackerman died of heart failure playing with his grandchildren at age 83. Within weeks of his death, family and friends petitioned the mayor's office successfully to rename the street, although "Walk" remained in the name of it. Local businesses and residents were much annoyed when they had to get all new stationary, but luckily for them the dead began to rise not long after the name change and business dropped sharply along with mail service deliveries.
History
In early October, 2007, the Western Malton Coalition for a Grigg Heights Mall announced that the location selection committee had narrowed down to one the site for a new western Malton mall. Ackerman Walk is set to be excavated in spring 2009 as the start of construction on the southeast corner of the brand new yet-to-be-named Grigg Heights Mall. This location was selected very carefully after months of economic studies, urban planning, and civil engineering surveys. The new mall will be a great boon to this part of Malton, which has fallen on economic hard times of late.
