An empty block is any block not containing a building. They cannot be barricaded, and yield next to nothing when searched. Revive points are usually located in empty blocks, because the poor tactical value of an empty block makes it an unpopular camping ground for active hostile zombies.
In some instances, empty blocks completely surround a building, forming an island. Empty blocks completely surrounding another empty block form a void.
There are 4,530 empty blocks in Malton.
Carpark
- Total: 258.
- A carpark is a city block without any buildings, used before the apocalypse for parking cars. If any cars remain, they are apparently unusable.
- One carpark contains a Billboard.
- Items (rarely): fuel cans, mobile phones and newspapers.
Cemetery
- Total: 130.
- A cemetery is a city block without any buildings, used before the apocalypse for burying the dead.
- There are currently no cemetery-specific game mechanics for either zombies or survivors.
- Many players, referencing the Sacred Ground Policy, use all cemeteries as Revivification Points.
City Zoo
- Special: part of the unique Malton City Zoo complex.
- Rare: there are only fourteen empty zoo blocks.
- The city zoo is a complex containing several empty squares and several buildings. Before the infestation, animals were on display here for humans' viewing pleasure, the cages are now empty.
Exercise Yard

- Rare: there are only two exercise yards.
- The exercise yard is a fort square used to keep the troops fit, and can only be accessed from other fort squares.
