Once an elegant theatre, owned by ''auteur'' and director Frederick Fopp, Frederick's fell into disuse in the early twentieth century until it was renovated for use for 'moving pictures'. In the latter decades of its existence it was one of Malton's notable arthouse cinemas, and was highly popular with trend-setting Wykewood youth who would combine a challenging afternoon of [[Factory 13,71|artisanal ax-shopping]] with a trip to 'Freddy's' and a few pints of microbrew at [[The Smithfield Arms]].
