Way back in 2009, [[User:Misanthropy|Misanthropy]] [[UDWiki:Administration/Sysop Archives/Misanthropy/2009-11-19 Promotion|said]] "The wiki currently seems like the obituary for a fun game from a few years back, rather than one that's still very active." He aptly predicted what this wiki would need from that point onward. The game's playerbase has declined continuously since then, but '''there is still a playerbase'''. People still play Urban Dead, and it's our duty and honor to provide them with a high quality wiki, even if they no longer number in the tens of thousands or even in the thousands. We derelict our duty by declaring the game "dead" and leaving the wiki as nothing more than a dusty, nostalgic relic. So long as the servers run, the wiki must actively serve the ''playerbase of the present'', no matter how small that playerbase grows or how fondly we remember the playerbase of the past.

*Make the revive point listing system functional. It's not important for RP statuses to be updated frequently, because their usage does not change very much over time. However, having a timestamp of the last time someone said it was in use would be very helpful in determining when to de-list RPs. This project intends to make updating them standardized, and show the information on all relevant pages. All other systems will be obsoleted.
**<s>Remove the ''dangerous'' status from [[Template:RevivePointMapLegend]] and [[Template:RevivePointFooter]]</s> Done. It's worth noting that not a single RP was marked as dangerous at the time I removed it. No need to be rid of all the code for it; It can remain as a hidden option, much like junkyards can be marked as ruined.
**Move existing info to pages titled User:RevivePointUpdate/SuburbName, such as [[User:RevivePointUpdate/Rhodenbank]]. They are listed at [[Special:PrefixIndex/User:RevivePointUpdate]].
**On all User:RevivePointUpdate/ pages, include an {{c|blue|(update)}} link and exclude any link to external systems.
**Add the finished User:RevivePointUpdate/ pages to:
***The [[List of Revivification Points]]
***The suburb pages
***The suburb BICs
***The building pages. Remove [[Template:RevivePointBox]] where this system replaces it.

*Neaten and organize [[Urban Dead Timeline]] or [[UDWiki:Project Timeline]]. Probably merge them and delete the straggler? Organize into three sections:
**2005-2010, The Age of Great Sieges:  with most events only including a short description and a link to the page describing them in more detail. End on [[Escape (event)]]/[[Big Bash 3]] as a Fukuyama-style "End of History." After this point, few specific events need to be listed.
**2010-2016, The Fight for Lives: Ends when the active population drops below 5470 for the first time in 2016, which is the number of buildings.
**2016-present, The Fight for Territory: The modern area of hiding in an abandoned city and seeking out small population clusters.

*Probably impossible: Get those little color-coded squares that show building statuses to default to [[:Template:StatusMap unknown|unknown]]. Currently, misspelled statuses such as "save" make the building's square disappear completely. If there is a solution, it may be related to [[User:DangerReport/B]] and [[:Template:SMF]]. Those templates call upon <nowiki>{{StatusMap {{lc:{{{status}}}}}}}</nowiki>, where <nowiki>{{lc:{{{status}}}}}</nowiki> is replaced with the text entered as the status in the DangerReport. It would ideally call upon <nowiki>{{StatusMap unknown}}</nowiki> if the status is not one of the accepted entries, but I don't know if there is a way to do such a thing, and I can't conceive of a viable workaround. [[User:Aichon/Archive_2012#DangerReport_colors?]] may point the way towards a hint.

Way back in 2009, Misanthropy said "The wiki currently seems like the obituary for a fun game from a few years back, rather than one that's still very active." He aptly predicted what this wiki would need from that point onward. The game's playerbase has declined continuously since then, but there is still a playerbase. So long as the servers run, the wiki must actively serve the playerbase of the present, no matter how small that playerbase grows or how fondly we remember the playerbase of the past.

On today's UDWiki, we have neither the need nor the manpower for new systems or content expansions. Our primary focuses should be:
  • Retrofitting old systems to operate with reduced input. For example, all dates should include the year.
  • Retrofitting old content to display properly on modern devices.
  • Removing or marking dead links.
  • Removing information that is outdated and not historically interesting.
  • Updating strategic analyses to reflect modern in-game conditions. Most pages assume all buildings contain several players. Many pages haven't even been updated to reflect the addition of ruins.
  • Correcting oversights, sloppy work, and nonstandardized content.
My own projects are to:
  • Correct all 100 minimaps. Certain buildings have never appeared on them, and need to be added. This includes junkyards and warehouses, except in rows that start with |y={{mmOther}}. Also, many rows of empty blocks have become transparent when they should be white. If I make an error, the minipap effected may appear in Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls. Progress, tracked by rows of suburbs, are:
    • Should be correct, but need to be double checked: Row 1, Rows 4-10
    • Not started: Rows 2-3
This task is fiddly and prone to error, so after all 100 minimaps are done, I should double check each one.
  • Standardize the Resource Buildings section on all suburbs.
  • Collect and organize Search Odds. Maybe make individual templates for the percent chance of finding each item at each location, and include those templates on the Items pages and Category:Locationblock Components. Link to these templates from the respective Search Odds pages, so they can be updated when new data is collected.
  • Make the revive point listing system functional.
Much of this work was previously started by others, but appears to have been abandoned. Note previous discussion on the topic here, here, and here.
  • Transition the EMRP report page to include year of the report. Would the day fit too?
  • Look at MPM report system(s) and deal with anything defunct.
  • Work on the Districts
    • Now that radio is no longer assigned by district, the concept of districts has very little value. The project should be wrapped up without expanding to the other districts. Delete pages which lack content.
  • Probably impossible: Get those little color-coded squares that show building statuses to default to unknown. Currently, misspelled statuses such as "save" make the building's square disappear completely. If there is a solution, it may be related to User:DangerReport/B and Template:SMF. Those templates call upon {{StatusMap {{lc:{{{status}}}}}}}, where {{lc:{{{status}}}}} is replaced with the text entered as the status in the DangerReport. It would ideally call upon {{StatusMap unknown}} if the status is not one of the accepted entries, but I don't know if there is a way to do such a thing, and I can't conceive of a viable workaround. User:Aichon/Archive_2012#DangerReport_colors? may point the way towards a hint.
