You are standing before Pridmore Way School, a wide stretch of cold brick building separated in the middle, a field behind, then woods. The parking lot is full. The doors to both buildings have been quite strongly barricaded.

Somebody has spraypainted Man is born free; and everywhere he is in chains onto a wall, the mark of a quoter, the profundity unimportant in generalities and unawareness. The paint is chipped and old, and many more messages are sprapainted here and there, for it is a school.

You are waylaid on your path; for, upon looking to the side and then the other side, and seeing not Latrobe but Pridmore Way School, the former is not the latter, although the latter was nearly on the way to the former, just to the side, enough so that it would make sense to come here first if you had not been so intent on the latter––and you were. But where the former is delayed, the latter is present, and in filling the present it is as if between now and the end there is an ever expanding breadth of events that hurry to slow the telling of things, from either the motivation of refusing the end in delaying it, or delaying the end in bringing itself toward it––somewhat vaguely, and with an unnecessary manner.

You are breathing heavily. You had just run through the streets, looking behind periodically, with the assumption that something follows. Crooked, moving shapes at the end of a narrow street had prompted this. The city seemed so pleasant for so long, no dead to bother your living flesh. You wonder what event made the change from dormancy to activity. You have no great knowledge of the dead's behaviour to think better than opinion. They have no obvious directionality; the mob you sighted was even bumping into each other on occasion, as if confused. And they have no obvious cause. (You have been cautious and silent, yes?) But you are sure that they really ought not to be out on the streets. It is almost like they violated a permanent curfew.

You look back, then forward; and you should have a look around.
