Description

It is not known which member of the Cockayne Family this Station was named after. Most of it's family having something, in one way or the other, to do with health/medicine or hygiene.

Some think the station was named after Emily Cockayne as a tribute for her never-ending tale of woe about the wretched filth that was 17th century England. Maybe it was an inside joke among Malton's City Fathers (unfortunately, it was a premonition of sorts...)

Still others believe that is was named in honor of Sir Edward Alfred Cockayne, when he treated a policeman's child and diagnosed a new disease as a result.

Regardless, all this was forgotten by the early 80's when drugs were rampant and the Wyke Hills Vice Squad was HQ'd here. "Cockayne" came to be pronounced as "cocaine," especially when several officers were charged with conspiracy, intent and distribution in the affair. Users were left with nothing of quite the same quality again, giving new meaning to the term, "The thin Blue Line..."
