Death by Dropped Museum Object
Timestamp: Aeon17x 05:38, 7 September 2010 (BST) |
Type: New item use |
Scope: Museum pieces, survivors inside tall buildings, survivors/zombies outside tall buildings |
Description: When you drop a museum piece in a tall building (hotels/motels, towers, _______ buildings including NTs), there should be a random chance of your dropped museum piece hitting someone on its way down.
Why? Because of gravity. Tall building + falling heavy thing = a potential hazard for anyone standing immediately outside. The details are as follows:
While this is not something I imagine anyone would actively use for defense, it gives museums one other purpose other than providing decorative items that are nice to look at, and that is providing decorative items that can (indirectly) kill. Overall it might seem like more of a flavor change than anything, but it's something the physics and arts types would subtly appreciate. |
Discussion (Death by Dropped Museum Object)
Yes. But instead of a 20% chance to do 20 damage to the least active, make it have a chance, equal to half/a fourth the encumbrance, to instantly kill the most active. --VVV RPMBG 05:44, 7 September 2010 (BST)
- That sort of makes sense... after all in the movies it's always the dude who just arrived in the scene who gets hit by a falling object, heh. The instant kill is kinda harsh though. --Aeon17x 06:26, 7 September 2010 (BST)
While realistic, unfortunatly I'm pretty sure this would fall under the "Shooting things outside from inside" dupe since that is exactly what it does. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea, (and it would be hard to abuse in the first place, mostly just RP) but it still falls under those dupe categories for hitting things outside from inside. --Gat 05:47, 7 September 2010 (BST)
- It's just something gravity-related, like suicide or tumbling off a ruin from free running. It's not like you drop a museum piece with the express intent of having it hit someone on its way down. I suppose having it able to kill might be too much though, perhaps I'll change it to like tumbling from ruins; it damages but it doesn't kill. --Aeon17x 06:26, 7 September 2010 (BST)
Chance to hit seems wrong, it should vary by number of potential victims. For example1-10 targets = 5%, 11-20 targets = 20%, 21-50 targets = 30%, 51-100 targets = 40%, 100+ targets = 50%. --Honestmistake 12:33, 7 September 2010 (BST)
- The initial draft in my head was like that, the chance to hit depends on the crowd outside. For me it was (total number of zombies + survivors outside) in percent. So if there is a crowd of 5 the chance to hit was 5%, crowd of 30 the chance to hit was 30%, crowd of 100 or more and it'll surely land on someone, etc.
In the end I just went with a consistent 20% chance to hit since I visualized they'd all be crowding in front of the building's entry way and the window from which you drop the museum piece is conveniently located right above it. --Aeon17x 15:48, 7 September 2010 (BST)
Absotively. This suggestion rocks! --Karloth Vois ¯\(°_o)/¯ 16:48, 7 September 2010 (BST)
- As Karloth. This shouldn't even have to go through the suggestions system. Fucking add it now. -- LEMON #1 04:47, 8 September 2010 (BST)
This is an awful idea, because people would flock to Museum and loot all the gear and just use it as weapons. It doesnt matter that this would grant no exp. Because chances are, your character is already maxed, this would also grant an unfair advantage in sieges. Oh look 50+zeds? Drop Museum peace, they die, you lol. --TheWritingWriter 01:25, 9 September 2010 (BST)
- 50 zombies you say?
- At 20 damage per hit, you need 150 hits to kill 50 zombies.
- At 20% chance to hit, you need 750 museum pieces to kill 50 zombies.
- At 20% encumbrance per museum piece, you need 150 survivors carrying five museum pieces each to kill 50 zombies.
- I believe it's the zombies who are lol-ling at the idea. --Aeon17x 02:50, 9 September 2010 (BST)

This is kinda Shooting through Barricades, no? --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 23:27, 9 September 2010 (BST)
- Re - Yeah, it is. But nevermind the vote. Do you like the idea? --Aeon17x 02:00, 10 September 2010 (BST)
- If I'm voting kill, then what do you think? Also, be happy I didn't decide on the Humourous vote. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 19:11, 12 September 2010 (BST)
- I was thinking you were voting kill since you were going with the flow on what to do vis a vis the suggestions related to the frequently suggested page; from your vote alone I'm unable to tell what your personal preference is, if any (I'm pretty sure what you thought of now after you replied though).
Also it didn't strike me as humourous... call it a cultural divide but do Western audiences consider falling objects on other people as funny? It's really going over my head. --Aeon17x 01:47, 13 September 2010 (BST)
