Description

This police department was named after a famous and well-respected chief of police during the fifties, Malcolm Sharp. For over thirty years, Officer Sharp worked tirelessly to keep Dartside's streets safe and free of jaywalkers and litter. After his retirement in 1962, a group of grateful citizens suggested the new police station near Tikhon General Hospital be named in his honor. Unfortunately, the citizen who wrote the proposal was severely dyslexic, and his mistake was not revealed until after the ribbon was cut at the Shapr Boulevard Police Department. Instead of causing an embarrassment for the bureaucrats of Malton, however, Sharp took the opportunity at the department's opening reception to deliver a rousing speech on the importance of good spelling. He persuaded the police departments of Dartside to fund a yearly spelling bee for Malton's grade school students, and served as the emcee every year until his death in 1985. His grave can be found at the cemetery in Dartside, with his full name spelled correctly.
