Description

You are at Jenys Place.

History

Jenys Place was the prowling grounds of one of 19th century Malton's most notorious female serial killers, Red Jenny. Parents would caution their children to avoid "Jenny's Place"; the entire area was strictly avoided after dark, meaning that Red Jenny only actually killed a total of three people during her career, before later dying of typhoid.

During the 1970s craze for 'historical Malton', the legend of "Jenny's Place" was dug up, shorn of its horrific connotations, and applied to a small lane in the area as "Jenys Place".
