Description

The Squires Building is a luxury residential apartment building located in the suburb of Pescodside. The building is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious apartment houses in Malton. This status is due to the building's overall architecture, the scale and layout of the apartments, and the notoriety of its current and past residents. It is widely regarded as one of the finest buildings designed by Rosario Candela.

The Squires Building, as shown from the corner of Lanning Lane and Acott Crescent.

The building was constructed in 1931, and was one of the last luxury apartment houses completed before the Great Depression halted such projects in Malton. Its street facing facades are composed of limestone and brick. Elements of Art Deco styling were utilized on the entry ways and portions of the facade.

Apartments in the building generally have ceiling heights of eleven feet or greater. Very few apartments have layouts similar to each other. The upper floors contain a preponderance of duplex units and one triplex. There are several 6,000 sq. ft. simplex units which contain four bedrooms each, as well as 5,000 sq. ft. duplexes with three bedrooms and numerous servants quarters.

Similar to other luxury apartment buildings in Malton, a person who had purchased a unit in the building must pay entirely in cash for the apartment. No mortgage financing was allowed. In addition, the cooperative's board was rumored to require potential buyers to possess liquid assets in excess of ten times the value of the purchased unit.

After the "Malton Incident" the apartments have certainly seen better days as survivors have taken residence in many of the units at some time or another. As such, it is not uncommon to come across a hallway of kicked-in doors and splintered door frames.

Barricade Policy

This building should be Extremely Heavily barricaded at all times. This is in accordance with the mutually agreed-upon Pescodside Barricade Plan set forth by local survivor groups and the Dulston Alliance, who routinely work together to monitor that the barricades for this building are at the aforementioned level. This building is meant to serve as a safehouse for Malton's veteran survivors.

Survivors who find the building's barricades below their assigned level are asked to assist in raising them back up in order to help ensure the safety of all the survivors staying inside the building. Any survivor found lowering the barricades may be directly "put to the question" by any member of the Dulston Alliance or a vigilante-minded survivor who catches the culprit in the act. If this happens the accused survivor must present a valid reason for their actions or be labeled a zombie spy/death cultist and be judged accordingly. So always be cautious lest you find yourself summarily executed for crimes against humanity.
