Abigail Batey was appointed Chief Researcher of Rateger Inc. in 1994, following decades in relative scientific seclusion. She is primarily noted for persuing a line of work entitled "Project Soma", which eventually took up most of Rateger Inc's funds, yeilding little to no results, and alledgedly leading to the corperation's eventual bankruptcy.

Early Life

According to remaining family, Batey was content to work as a chemist upon finishing high school, but became incresingly obsessed with her work concerning the human brain. She enrolled in a course on Neuroactivity in England's Oxford University, and emerged with top grades. She took a job at Rateger Inc, and moved to England.

Work as Chief Researcher

Batey was promoted to Chief Researcher upon publishing her work entitled "Norepinephrine release in defunct organs, focusing on the cortex". Senior Rateger Inc. officials became interested in her work, citing that this would put them ahead of Necrotech in the field, although they did not cite exactly what "The field" was. Within two months, Batey was permitted to use funds to directly benefit Project Soma.

Dismissal and demise

Batey was dismissed from Rateger Inc. for Gross Incompetence in 1997. Distraught and with little money to her name, she moved to Malton, where she took a low-level job at Necrotech. Little is known of her work there, although it is believed it would most likely be of little importance. She is thought to have been in the city at the time of the outbreak.
