not gonna work

even with this template posted on copyrighted images we would still need permission from the copyright holders.--'BPTmz 21:11, 8 September 2007 (BST)

i think that FOX, Universal, Hanna Barbera, LucasArts, Walt Disney and several other major copyright owners have more to bother than give permission for community boards/wikis to use their images. Several of these copyright owners allow people to use their images as long it used in a non-profitable way, which is how most images are being used in here. The images that are being used that make UrbanDead a better game and the wiki a better place were all created by Kevan or this community users. You'll notice that there is no copyrighted image in the suburb pages, the danger report images, which makes the wiki resourceful and the game better. In game, there is also no copyrighted image. So, in the end, there is no need to ask for permission for the copyright owner to use their images. It would be nice if we had permission, but that is a luxury we dont need. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 22:20, 8 September 2007 (BST)
Unfortunately, Fox doesn't care. If you use their images without permission, they will shut down the site. They've done it before, and they will do it again. --Akule School's in session. 22:34, 8 September 2007 (BST)
Different case. This was a site where the only thing discussed was The Simpsons. Without their copyright work, there wouldnt exist such a site. This is a wiki about UrbanDead, any image used in here to promote the game were created by their users, and any other images are only being used by the users for fun and in no way associated with the game mechanics. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 22:41, 8 September 2007 (BST)
And you speaking about sites being shut down in 1999. Have you hear about this new thing that marketing gurus call Viral Marketing ? The more exposure the public have about your work the better. I believe that FOX would love if we put something they own in the main page promoting some of their content. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 22:44, 8 September 2007 (BST)
Uh, no, they wouldn't. They don't stop this. There has been many cases of it, so it's not merely one isolated incident. In addition, your template is misleading because almost all of the images on the wiki are used without permission and not merely some. --Akule School's in session. 22:47, 8 September 2007 (BST)
It's not misleading. Some of this images might have the autorization of the copyright owner and you don't know about it. Anyway, in the same site you directed me there is an article on how images owned by FOX could be used. We are not using these images to promote UrbanDead, so we are not infring any of these guidelines. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 22:53, 8 September 2007 (BST)
And once again you have pointed me to an article that is 7 years old. Give me something new Akule. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 22:57, 8 September 2007 (BST)
Yes, it is. Most are not used with permission. Fine. Then look at the terms of use on the Fox site. Urban Dead is a commercial site, thus we can't use the images. --Akule School's in session. 23:01, 8 September 2007 (BST)
Wikisimpons Central and The Simpsons Wiki. The first is a commercial site (hey, it have ads, so it must be a commercial site), and the second have a disclaimer at the end of the of its Main Page telling that the images are copyrighted by FOX, the same thing this template does. Hum... --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 23:07, 8 September 2007 (BST)
Let's see, both are informational sites (allowed under fair use and fair dealing), while Kevan's is a service. Plus Kevan is hosted in the UK, so unless he is making articles about the Simpsons, it's illegal to host those images on his site. QED --Akule School's in session. 23:10, 8 September 2007 (BST)
Wasnt the sites FOX put down also informational sites about The Simpsons created by Simpsons fans ? What is the difference about this two simpsons wikis ? And yes, the Urban Dead Wiki might be a service for the Urban Dead game, but the images used in the mainstream community pages of this wiki were mostly (if not entirely) created by this community's user-base. Beyond these pages we have group and user pages, which Kevan might not be responsible for in the same way FOX is not responsible for what FOX foruns users say and post (its in FOX terms of use). --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 23:23, 8 September 2007 (BST)
Why not email terms@fox.com and ask them if how we are using the images are acceptable? After all, permission would quell this argument. Unless you are certain that they would remove them in that case. How sure are you of your beliefs? --Akule School's in session. 23:17, 8 September 2007 (BST)
I already thought about that. You are such a pain in the ass that it made mailing them a nice idea. But them i realized i would need several private informations from Kevan to contact them properly, and then i decided it was not worth the time to involve Kevan in such a frivilous discussion than it is to argue with you. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 23:23, 8 September 2007 (BST)
You could very easily ask questions and give examples in order to see what they thought. Would you like me to drop them a line and show them an image or two, and then see what they thought, and get an idea of if they would be willing to give permission or not? --Akule School's in session. 23:28, 8 September 2007 (BST)
I dont trust you enough to contact them. The last time someone contacted a copyright owner, he miserably failed to describe how the images the copyright owner owned were being used in the wiki, which caused the deletion of all its images. This would require some sort of discussion with the entire community before we follow through. Move this discussion here, and let us all decide on what should be written in this message before contacting any copyright owner. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 23:34, 8 September 2007 (BST)
Actually, the copyright holder looked at how the images were being used and was upset that they were being used already without permission. Fox is very explicit on how they want people to ask for permission before using images, as they want to know how, where, and why the images are being used. --Akule School's in session. 23:36, 8 September 2007 (BST)
This doesnt change my opinion on this matter. If you want to contact any copyright owner, please allow the community to at least write what should be written in the message. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 23:46, 8 September 2007 (BST)
