Characters

Anya Sabanova

History

Anya Sabanova in the early days of the outbreak.

The only child born to an Afrikaans mother and an Ossetian father, Anya spent her childhood in the Kaukasus where she learned to curse in 6 languages, shoot, drive and acquired a taste for extremely poor quality, foul smelling cigarettes; all before the age of 15. When she was 16, her family moved to Malton and became citizens. Here, her father fulfilled his life long dream and opened a small electronics repair business specializing in bulky but reliable Soviet era radios. As this did not provide the type of income he had hoped for, her mother eventually joined the local police force to supplement their income. Despite showing promise with electronics, when she turned 18 Anya followed in her mother's footsteps and joined the Malton Police Department. She served well, although never truly excelling until she was eventually assigned to a Riot Response Unit just weeks before the Outbreak. When her unit was mobilized "Riots" had already claimed the lives of thousands, and the undead nature of the enemy was just becoming known. In the chaos that followed, Anya stayed with her unit, which was doing its best to protect civilians and keep back the ravenous hordes of slavering flesh eaters, until it was almost entirely devoured. After that she eventually made her way back to her station house in Gibsonton to help however she could. She has generally stayed in the area since. Despite the Zombie Apocalypse, Complete Breakdown of Social Order and Ruthless Military Quarantine, she has somehow managed to never run out of her particular brand of harsh Russian cigarettes, although she is down to smoking a pack a week. She will not share them.

Personality

Anya really likes movie and TV soundtracks and when circumstances allow, will listen to the Battlestar Galactica Season 2 soundtrack on an iPod she found. Generally, her attitude is professional but relaxed, willing to provide first aid, assistance building barricades, or just share some clean water. She does not seem too affected by the ultra violent lifestyle of Malton survivors. In fact, she considers life in Malton to be a lot like life where she used to live, only with more zombies and less accessible firepower. She has not seen or heard from her family since the outbreak.

Nasreen Devar

History

Nasreen Devar before moving to Malton, annoyed about something, as usual.

Nasreen Devar is a professional volunteer. If no one wants to do it, if no one cares about it, if it is difficult or dangerous, she's probably already done it. Born to a French father and an Iranian Jewish mother, she was raised in Iran. Her father was a photo journalist, and starting at an early age she accompanied him on his travels. This instilled in her a wanderlust she would keep the rest of her life. When she was 19, she moved to Israel to serve in the IDF. After that, her father got her a job as a war correspondent for Reuters, covering conflict zones from Chechnya to the Ivory Coast. While reporting in Kurdistan she became disenfranchised with the media and without any real explanation joined the Peshmerga. By this time, her parents had moved to Malton and often expressed how they wished she would join them and settle down. It took a few years, but eventually Nasreen became burned out on the fighting and took up her parents offer, moving to Malton. In an attempt to live the "Quiet" life, Nasreen took a job with a private security company serving a large pharmaceutical research and development corporation called NecroTech, so she could stay near her parents. On July 2nd, 2005, Nasreen was working at the Greatorex Building in Houldenbank and over the next few days assisted many NecroTech employees in evacuating, although initially she had no idea why they were evacuating. Between the rioters, looters, rampaging undead and military crackdown, Nasreen decided to stay at her post and do as much good there as possible, instead of trying to make her way to her parents. She has not heard from them since.

Personality

Despite being something of a romantic, believing in Honour, Courage and Personal Sacrifice, Nasreen seems to hate, or at the very least strongly dislike, most people she comes into contact with. However, even without being particularly empathetic, she is capable of acts of compassion and her laconic understanding of psychology allows her to be comforting when necessary. She will gladly use her last first aid kit on another injured survivor, even when injured herself. She takes everything in stride, and is rarely disturbed by the traumatic nature of surviving in Malton. She also is relatively slow to anger, despite seeming to be annoyed almost all the time. Her only real recreational activity is listening to the survivor broadcasts over the radio, which she will sometimes do instead of sleeping.
