You are inside Fanning Cinema, its auditorium in darkness.
As you explore the theatre, it seems almost like the plague is warping and twisting Malton itself. The seats rise up at an unbelievably steep angle, with a gigantic concave movie screen reaching around them. Speakers large and small line the walls of the room, though all is silent. A horrid stench assaults your nostrils and makes it hard to breath without gagging. The smell appears to be eminating from a row of festering trash cans from which rotting garbage spills out onto the floor. Backing out of this surreal scene you return the to hallway outside while trying to control your heaving stomach.
You gulp in fresh air as soon as you enter the wide hallway. It is very quiet and every step you make seems to echo down the wide, tiled hall. You look around trying to gain your bearings. Entrances to three other theatres and a set of restrooms pock the walls stretching into darkness. A large arrow points to the "Main Gallery" and "Planetarium" somewhere beyond the shadows.
You try to collect yourself and think of what to do next, but your head is still swimming. You fumble with your flashlight. Even away from the stink your stomach turns. Something else is wrong...
You hear a deep and echoing groan.
Description
Fanning Cinema is both an old Planetarium and a modern IMAX cinema merged into one and located in the suburb of Rolt Heights along the border with Gibsonton to the south. The cinema was dedicated to famed astronomer Rachel Fanning. Its strange architecture, with domed and clam shaped roof, made it a popular photo for postcards and tourists.
The Fanning was initially designed in the early fifties as a Planetarium to complement the nearby Riddell Museum and Bromilow Library, as part of the "Think Science" Project. Construction was delayed several times because of drastic plan changes however, and the building did not open to the public until late-October 1953. Two positive last-minute additions were the psychedelic "Dream Among the Stars" and the "History of Cinematography and Photography" exhibit in the main foyer.
Later in the 90s the cinema was expanded to include an Omnimax (later IMAX) movie screen. A free showing of 'To Fly' during its opening week made it very popular and profitable in the years leading up to the outbreak.
Fanning Cinema is now looted and abandoned, though you will find the occasional box of Sno-Caps laying around, unopened.
Now Playing
Fanning Cinema has a wide range of movies that, at least at the time of the outbreak, were considered "new releases". At this time all but one of the cinema's 7 theater rooms has gone silent. Theater #7 is currently playing the short spoof movie, Interview with a Zombie (2005). While impossible to believe, when factoring in the time the outbreak occurred, it is more likely that this particular short movie (if short can truly define a 5-minute movie) was retrieved through means best not pondered by the average survivor.
Currently under new management, the Big Damn Heroes crew have been showing late night Horror movie marathons. The next show is on October 3rd at 8:30pm. We're showing Halloween II and Eaten Alive! Tickets are free! Just refuel the Generator! Please broadcast movie requests over 28.81.
Mandate
Survivors are asked to report the current status of the cinema so that all avid moviegoers will know what to expect when they arrive. Survivors who do arrive are asked to adhere to the following procedure:
- Retrieve popcorn and soda from the snack bar (if any).
- Sit in one of the theater rooms still playing a movie.
- Watch the movie.
- Go to bathroom.
- Repeat from Step 1.

Barricade Policy
This building should be Extremely Heavily barricaded at all times. This is in accordance with the mutually supported Rolt Heights Barricade Plan set forth in agreement with local survivor groups. This building is meant to serve as a safehouse for Malton's veteran survivors.
Recently, Big Damn Heroes has taken charge of maintaining the barricades (according to the Rolt Heights Barricade Plan), and generator so that like minded survivors can get their post outbreak late night picture show on. As such, the lineup of films has been slightly altered to present more of a horrific fare and the show times have change to be more "atmospheric".

August 27th, 2008 - The Big Damn Heroes, a new survivor group which recently appeared in Rolt Heights, have started showing late-night horror movie marathons at the cinema.
November 7th, 2007 - The VZW brought the First VZW Malton Film Festival to Fanning Cinema today and has been debuting movies that were made in Malton. A special veiwing of The Taking of Giddings One, Two, Three was hosted here today. VZW film critic, Samuel L Plisken, provides this synopsis of the movie: Mr. Ochre and his crew of PKers take hostages in the Giddings Mall. If Okra, er...Ochre and Co. don't get a million baby pacifiers in an hour, Ochre will start carving graffiti on the shoppers' foreheads. Quentin Tarantino borrowed a lot from this unsung classic of crime cinema -- including criminals using colors for code names -- for his film Reservoir Dogs. --Shazzelim 13:41, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
