Description

The Dement Arms beer garden lacks its former charm.

A choking jumble of blackened garden chairs and burning tyres.

History

Once the beer garden for the Dement Arms to the north, this popular Sunday afternoon drinking spot was ruined forever when the warehouse next door caught fire. Southerly winds meant that the fire tore through the garden as well, turning wrought iron garden furniture into a twisted mess, and resulting in the utter destruction of one climbing frame and several trellises of dogroses.

The Dement Arms subsequently lost its popularity as a family venue and became a magnet for hardcore drinkers who enjoyed the ambience of the smouldering pile of tyres that were later dumped in the yard.
