EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH CAPTAIN CARLOS OLIVERA OF THE U.B.C.S. Merc-for-hire
Devourer of Worlds recently sat down with Captain Carlos Olivera of the Survivor group, U.C.B.S Mercs for Hire. The captain came out swinging and was at no loss for words on a wide range of issues.
DOW: It's said the UCBS MERCS FOR HIRE were once the Ops arm of a larger organization. What happened that you guys left that group and what do you see as your purpose now?
CO: This is a joke, right? First off, it's UBCS, not UCBS. Secondly, Olivera*, not "Oliviera". Now I'll get to your questions. We began as a mercenary unit in Malton, wandering through the city destroying undead, barricading buildings, basically just surviving as we're supposed to. Then the group Umbrella Corporation contacted us looking for our word in an alliance. Not believing in such things, we turned it down, but offered our help as their mercenaries. We worked for them for a while, until their new leadership (which seemed to change every week) decided to talk back to me. I got pissed and called off my mercs. A couple weeks later, they collapsed on themselves and gained a new leader called Wesker. We're now working for them again, mostly due to the fact that Wesker and I get along. We're basically on standby, that is, they have nothing for us to do at the moment. So, we're doing our own thing until they call on us again.
DOW: What is your opinion on Pker groups? What are the ones you hate the most? Respect the most? Which survivor group do you respect the most? Are there any hordes you particularly take notice of?
CO: PKer groups can suck my wang. Period. I've no respect for them. I'm a Counter-Strike player, and I see it only as team killing. Although I suppose it would be realistic for people to go mad and kill each other in a zompocalypse, my view is that we're on the same side. We're all survivors. We should act like it. Flowers of Disease are my most hated PKer group. The survivor group I respect most is my own. We leave other groups, even PK groups alone as long as they don't bother us or screw us in any way. Zombies, though... Well, they're just fair game to any survivor. Let's put it that way. RRF is the most notable horde to us. We've run several ops into the heart of Ridleybank, the most recent one being a simple test of our ability to survive without resupplying. We lasted a good three weeks. Supplies ran out and we were breached. Had to pull back.
DOW: Tell us about one of your most recent successes?
CO: See the end of number 2. I consider it a success. It'd be a challenge for any eight-man survivor team to survive there for one week, let alone the three that we endured.
DOW: Would yous help any group in need or are there certain criteria those who would hire you must meet?
CO: Hey, we're mercs, we're not picky. As long as the group gives us the required "payment" as laid out in our Wiki page, we'll help. Well, if we feel like it at least. I recently turned down Phoenix Security Service when they asked for our help. They refused to give us access to all of their information, so they were denied our support.
DOW: How does your group measure up with other survivor groups of your kind? Where do you see yourselves as a group moving forward?
CO: There are no other survivor groups like us. And if there ever are, I doubt they'd come close to measuring up to us. We're pros at playing mercenary. Our tactics, strategies, and coordination are second to none. Our only downfall is that, being such a small group (about 10 active players, but it changes up and down), we don't always have the time to log in often enough to maintain barricades and prevent breakins.
DOW: What is your opinion on Bounty Hunters? Necessary? Making the problems worse?
CO: Bounty hunters are basically just independent mercenaries. Not much different from us. Depends on the character of the hunter or merc to declare his presence as a problem or solution.
DOW: Are you still recruiting? What does the UBCS MErcs for Hire look for in a potential recruit?
CO: We're always recruiting, though we don't exactly go on recruiting drives. We keep our eyes out for anyone who would make a good candidate. A good UBCS merc is mature, decisive, cooperative, and can act as both a leader and a follower.
DOW: With one word, describe the following:
CO: In one word... 1. Leon Cane - Intelligent 2. The Malton Colossus - Thewhat? 3. Fort Creedy - Fun 4. UBCS Mercs - Badasses 5. PKers - Dumbasses 6. Extinction - Worthy 7. Rogues Gallery - Neverheardofthiseither.
DOW: Thank you for your time Captain Olivera and good luck to you and your Mercs.
