Description

A poorly constructed government school surrounded by high security fences and the like.

History

Beer Place School in Crowbank, part of the highly controversial Beer Schools Alliance was established in Malton in 1899. Originally it operated as a mental asylum which offered beer as well as assorted hard drugs in order to subdue rowdy mental patients. During the Great Depression hundreds of drug users poured into the school for "a government subsidized good time"TM, this slogan was later adopted as the school's motto. In the 1950s the 'school' which by then was no more than a crack den was shut down due to public protesting. However during the 1970s it was reopened for hippies looking for an alternative education for their children. Until the Malton Incident the school operated under a fairly quiet existence and was only busted twice for providing alcohol to minors. The school remained a place where alternative parents could guarantee their child would get free alcohol whenever they wanted it and a substandard education from permanently high teachers.

And of course no one could forget the crucial role the Great Fire of 1912 played in the school's history.
