History

Cureton Lane school was failing. In the late 80s independent inspectors named it as one of the worst schools in the whole of Malton.

This all changed in 1996. With Pople Place School opening next door. Class sizes were halved overnight. Finally children could get the support they deserved. Working alongside local organizations like M.E.R.C.Y. a holistic approach was adopted. Children were helped around the clock, with after school clubs, free school meals and work placements available to all.

In 1996 when scandal engulfed Pople Place School, Cureton lane won the highest civic award Malton could award.

Post outbreak many former students still spend a lot of their time at the school, helping out whenever they can and protecting those children who survive.
