That was my official title on the Necrotech company payroll; a 'Financial Consultant'. That doesn't even come close to describing what I was really assigned to do. In the past the company would leave me an email on a secure account, send me on a trip to some major city. I'd arrive in my hotel room, a briefcase containing a pistol, 3 clips, and a knife would be inside. Later that day I'd go out to a restaurant or another hotel were my target would be, I'd kill them, find the files they had taken, and mail them back to the company. This time; as I looked over the side of a Necrotech company helicopter, I knew things were different. This was within hours of the initial outbreak and downtown Malton was a death trap.
They'd given me a PDA and from what I could tell everyone was moving towards the city's center. The helicopter hovered around eight feet above the grass of a small park in East Grayside. The copilot turned in his chair, gave me a briefcase, and pointed out the door. Upon hitting the ground I ran towards Necrotech building flagged on the PDA. The doors and windows were covered with heavy metal shutters and I went around to the back.
I popped open the briefcase, pulled out a card with 26 digits written across it, and typed them into the keypad. Their was an electronic hiss and gas fired from the edges of the vault style door before it swung open. On the otherside was a Necronet computer; normally a simple password would give you access but to retrieve all the data from the system I needed a board member's keycard and thumb print. I'd had the keycard for three years now but lets just say the board member with the KGB background whose card I'd had recently lost the use of his right thumb in a kitchen 'accident'. The Necronet only took three seconds to download all the reasearch data ever collected in the labs within Malton to my USB drive.
However it took six seconds for the super computers to wipe themselves and another six for the miniature thermite charges to fry the memory banks. I was putting the USB drive back into my briefcase when I heard shuffling down the hall. I got out of there before I could find out what it was.
