20070820 Searching for XP

User:Ledin Junis 15:12, 20 August 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
Adjustment

Suggestion scope
Shopping Skill

Suggestion description
background - The consumer class starts off with the shopping skill. However, that class is not able to get into malls until the free running skill is first bought. Considering that shopping is only currently useful in a mall this makes this class completely ineffective in the beginning of the game.

effect - The proposal is that the shopping skill be altered so that on a successful search outside of a mall, 1 XP is granted to the character.

analysis - This amount isn't enough to unbalance the skill in an experienced character. However, it's significant enough to give the consumer a leg up into their second level.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - This is my suggestion I get to vote once. -- Ledin Junis 15:29, 20 August 2007 (EST)
  2. Keep Just so she can get suggstions, rather than being overspaminated. Nalikill 21:58, 20 August 2007 (BST)
  3. Weak Keep - interesting aproach on helping consumers, although not best way round --~~~~T''' 09:41, 21 August 2007 (BST)
  4. Weak keep Same as what Duke Garland said. My first and main character started out as a consumer and now I'm level 24! All you need is patience... but a little more help for consumers would be good. Many people I know chose to be a consumer because they thought it was a good sub class, but it took so long to level up they abandoned the character.Bastetmeow 04:03, 30 August 2007 (BST)
  5. Keep/Change This is REALLY promising.But like grim said,libraries have an almost 100% to find a book.Take this to the siscussion page--Timo 1 09:48, 2 September 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Close, but needs some work Getting XP to search for books in a library (which you then drop) would be silly. If you search for useful items, you get XP for using them, so that also makes little sense. But I don't think the basic premise is awful. Both of the spam votes below (and hence the "ditto" as well) include factual errors; the suggestion specifically says the bonus would apply only to successful searches, and only outside a mall. 2. Overpowered, but the spirit is there... - It needs to be less AP efficent than books, then I'm keep all the way. BoboTalkClown 22:10, 21 August 2007 (BST)
  3. Kill - Well, yet again, Swiers hits it pretty good.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 21:48, 20 August 2007 (BST)
  4. Kill - Pretty much what Swiers said. If I could add my thoughts, how about giving each class a small XP bonus every now and then untill they reach level 10, say? Might help out new players.--Seventythree 22:09, 20 August 2007 (BST)
  5. Kill - For the same reason as the top three spam votes. --  T   22:18, 20 August 2007 (BST)
  6. Kill - Interesting idea, but no. The hardships of new consumers is the price we pay for keeping malls at EHB. --Pdeq 23:17, 20 August 2007 (BST)
  7. Kill - I'd rather see the consumer get a search bonus in powered buildings before choosing which shop to loot inside a mall. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 02:11, 21 August 2007 (BST)
  8. Kill - My zombie got into a mall the other day, and HE doesn't have free running! Seriously, though, the major problem with this is that if you're going to earn XP with little (or no) risk, it has to be either self-limiting (like ransack) or use so much AP that it almost isn't worth it (like reading books). --Steakfish 03:38, 21 August 2007 (BST)
  9. Kill - Honestly, I don't know if this would help out newbie consumers that much. I mean finding stuff outside is pretty tough. --Sonofagun18 06:39, 21 August 2007 (BST)
  10. Killplz As Swiers. Glenstone 11:19, 21 August 2007 (BST)
  11. Kill - Consumers are supposed to be hopeless, wastes of space with no useful skills whatsoever... just like real life really The preceding signed comment was added by boxy (talkcontribs) at 12:18 21 August 2007 (BST)
  12. Kill - Please note: I support the suggestion's goal! But not the method. Quite frankly, I'd recently created some Consumer alts, to gather data for the Search Odds, and quickly realized that starting a serious character with this class had no benefit beyond of Role Playing purposes, as their "advantage" is effectively nerfed by the (in my opinion) over-barricading of every Mall. While the Civilian catagory does require the least XP to max the survivor skill tree, this is not significant enough to impact early gameplay. So I would suggest buffing Shopping in some other way, for example by letting those with the skill enter Malls regardless of the strength of the barricade (but only while alive). --Morgan Blair 15:42, 21 August 2007 (BST)
  13. Change The amount of XP you can get from successful searches should max out at some time... Say... 200xp? --Secruss 18:42, 21 August 2007 (BST)
  14. Change As Swiers -- Pavluk 20:08, 21 August 2007 (BST)
  15. Kill - Somehow it doesn't feel right. -- John RubinT! ZG FER 21:06, 21 August 2007 (BST)
  16. Kill Since when do you need free running to get in malls? --Kaynex 03:02, 30 August 2007 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - 48 exp per day every day makes survivor level up crazy fast with no risk --The Grimch Mod-U! 20:32, 20 August 2007 (BST)
  2. Spam Librarys and bookstores have what, 90% chance to find a book? this is 50 exp a day with no drawback whatsoever. If zombies got exp every time they moved MAYBE its balanced.--Wooty 20:37, 20 August 2007 (BST)
  3. Spam - As the other two above --Ryiis 20:50, 20 August 2007 (BST)
  4. Spam- Tell that earning XP thing to my Scientist when hes looking for revivication syringes. One word NO! Sockem 00:42, 21 August 2007 (BST)
  5. Spam Character's can't get into the malls without Free Running? Since when?--Pesatyel 03:12, 21 August 2007 (BST)
  6. Spam - As above. --Saluton 15:31, 21 August 2007 (BST)
  7. Spam - Do not reward searching, searching is it's own reward! --Karekmaps?! 23:34, 24 August 2007 (BST)
