MBR
I saw you mention MBR in the Talk:Suggestions page, and I'm glad you've now supplied a link so I could check it out.
The calculations used for the MBR for shotguns look suspect to me.

about a 28% chance of finding a single shell (including those already in shotguns when found) in a mall with Bargain Hunting. Works out to be 3.57 AP per shell. Add 1 AP for load and 1 AP for fire; total is 5.57 AP per fired round. |
I realised it was written a while ago (which may be contributing to my point) but:
- Shotguns can be found with 0, 1 and 2 shells in them.
- Why does he add a loading AP for every shell - he's already told us that he includes in the 28% shells which are already found in the the shotgun. This affects the AP per fired round profoundly. There should be a distinction between preloaded shells and individual shells.
- The page on shotguns says they are found at 5% in a powered mall, and the shells are found at 11%. Even if every shotgun found were to hold 2 shells, you still couldn't get 11% up to 28%. 21% at most.
Until those figures become more accurate, I can't properly analyse your suggestion. But vault made an excellent point about the main difference between pistols and shotguns. 'arm. 04:43, 11 July 2007 (BST)
- I'm not sure how much difference the errors on the MBR page make. The absolute numbers may be off, but the point stands that loading a shotgun is a rather small portion of the AP spent to use it already (indeed, he semt to have overstated the loading cost) so making those reloads faster has a rather small effect on its MBR. You could make the reload themselves for zero AP (except people hate free actions) and it would still be an AP intensive weapon to find enough of to use for any length of time- but deadly when you had them!
And yeah, vaults point goes to the heart of the suggestion; the effect is you can use a shotgun in a way that makes it act almost exactly mid-way between a pistol and the current shotgun, if you so choose. If you dislike that "bridge the gap" effect, vote kill. . . . swiers 05:56, 11 July 2007 (BST)
