on "out of genre"

Zombie apocalypse is a particular case of post-apocalyptic society. And resourses are very limited there - UD is adjusted to be playable with infinite firearms stores, but in realistic model ammo rans out and survivors start to use more primitive stuff like spears, like crossbows. though no explosive arrows anyway --~~~~ [talk] 18:04, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

People wouldn't start to use spears and crossbows, not enough of either, too dangerous to get wood, not many arrows, etc. It's not exactly a popular past time or a large art. Now, improvised projectiles and weapons like cricket bats fill that niche nicely.--Karekmaps?! 21:54, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
Spears is for the general case. In urbanistic scenario it would rather be bats indeed --~~~~ [talk] 22:42, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
I agree. That's why we have things like crowbars, bats, and poolcues, and not things like katanas and crossbows. --Pdeq 02:13, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
I would never lug around a heavy crossbow that probably weighs at least 3 times as heavy as an aluminum bat and that takes very long to load. Maybe not so out of genre, but definitely too problematic, cumbersome and a general hinderance to use. Heck, I'd rather use a bow.--  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 22:07, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
