Flak Jacket Deterioration

Timestamp: Blackie Chan 10 Febuary 2007 13:33
Type: Change
Scope: Flak Jackets
Description: In reality if someone with a flak jacket was shot 50 times, all bullets hitting the jacket it would more than likely be destroyed or ripped at the very very least. I'm suggesting this because I think it's stupid that survivors have no advantage wearing a flak jacket 95% of the time and zombies are the only ones that ever get a real benefit from it.

If a player has been shot 25 times while wearing the same flak jacket it is transformed into a ripped flak jacket. This jacket only deflects 10% of damage done, so it only takes 1 point of damage off of a shotgun.

If a player has been shot 50 times while wearing the same flak jacket it is destroyed.

With this said being shot 25 times is about 2-4 deaths for a zombie and 50 is about 4-7 deaths. Now unless you're in a raid or wandering in a well defended hood, your flak jacket will last you some good time at the least.

Tell me what you think of this.

Discussion

My survivor doesn't wear flak because its a waste of time and my zombie doesn't wear it because it feels like cheating! I personally would support removing it from the game entirely or after each death!--Honestmistake 01:30, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Its also a bit stupid that a survivor can take just as many hits from a gun as a zombie can. One bullet in the living heart (or gut, or head, or parts of the limbs) = dieing human. One bullet in the zombie anywhere but the head = still coming at you. Since zombies are the main targets of guns, it balances out OK that they can use an item that reduces damage against guns- if anything, it should be a natural effect rather than depend on an item. On a practical "tech time" note, from what I know of how the computer tracks your inventory, this suggestion is pretty much unworkable as written. It would have to be a flat "hit of type x = y chance of flak jacket loss" type deal, because the flak jacket has no "space" to record its "hit points". That's why all guns take up 2 inventory slots- one slot for the gun, one slot for ammo (their "hit points"). I don't think this can easily be changed, though in truth, practicality is not supposed to impact suggestion voting. --S.Wiers X:00 02:35, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Not such a good idea, in my opinion. Yes, it makes sense to have flak jackets worn by zombies slightly deteriorated (because they can't take care of them), but for survivors? That would just hurt the victims of PKers, and besides, survivors can repair stuff. Add a mechanic to repair ripped flak jackets (for survivors only), increase the number of hits before the flak jacket degrades, and prevent flak jackets from being completely destroyed, and I'll be behind this. Otherwise ... well, realism does not equal fun. This adds realism, while removing fun. --Saluton 03:35, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

This would only hurt zombies with Brain Rot who cannot replace their flak jackets. Plus as stated above realism does not equal fun. --Deras 20:53, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
