Who we are

The Milliways Militia is a small mutual defence cooperative based in the vicinity of Lerwill Heights. Its members were enjoying a party at the end of time and space, and returned to find that their home town had been unexpectedly overrun by zombies. There was little consolation to be found in the fact that this is all, of course, impossible.

The Militia is dedicated to the defence of Lerwill Heights and surrounding suburbs against incursions by any enemy elements, be they zombie hordes or PKers. We enjoy the support of a large majority of the local population who have directly benefited from our intervention on a number of occasions.

Organisation

The Milliways Militia (MWM) has no formal leadership structure. Members are encouraged to provide suggestions, which are briefly discussed and then put to the vote. Our membership has a diverse range of interests, so it seemed natural to organise into a number of operational units. The membership of these organisations is quite fluid, and it is not unusual to find individuals taking on several different roles.

Community Defense Corps

The Community Defence Corps, or CDC, is the oldest part of the militia. Originally created in response to the deteriorating security situation, the CDC dedicate themselves to the elimination of zombies and murderers within the boundaries of Lerwill Heights snd neighbouring suburbs.

Medical Corps

The Medical Corps, or MWMMC, is staffed by scientifically minded individuals who apply their talents to the provision of medical treatment to the sick, revives to the dead and so on. We believe that cooperation, rather than competition, is the way to survive in these times of horror. To this end we aim to complement the sterling work of the Sebright Union and other community minded organisations.

Diplomatic Corps

The Milliways Militia Diplomatic Corps consists of one ambassador and a staff of 25 researchers. Ambassador DonkeyPox has made great strides in establishing friendly relations with local organisations, but it must not be forgotten that without his staff none of this would be possible.

Other Activities

In addition to our official duties, members of the Militia are involved in a number of social and cultural activities. Some of these are described below.

Fine Art Society

It isn't all hard work, healing and blood & guts in the Militia. In our more reflective moments a number of members like to visit the museums and galleries of Malton, and engage in quiet contemplation. The abstract sculptures in the Sebright Museum are a particular favourite among our more artistically minded members.

Community Outreach

A number of outreach programmes are under discussion, but no details are currently available. Please check this page for updates.

News

April 2007 General News

The Militia have not been active recently. Some members went off on a scouting expedition on their own and have not been heard from since. There are rumours they found a way out of Malton. Other members are still active around Lerwill Heights but are operating in co-operation with other groups. The Militia may formally disband soon as we will be able to make more of a difference around Lerwill Heights as members of those groups than operating with our own reduced numbers.

February 2007

8 Feb 2007: General News

Due to the success of our recent operations there has been little to report this month. Recently some of our volunteers have been assisting with the evacuation of Caiger Mall and providing medical assistance to refugees. Once the casualties have been dealt with we hope to head home for a week or two for some R&R.

January 2007

3 Jan 2007: Operation Winter Sale

Today a few Militia members decided to take a day away from the defence of Lerwill Heights, and popped down to the shops to buy some cheap kit in the sales. Unfortunately the only things the electronics shops seem to be stocking this year are GPS units and radios. Not a Wii to be seen.

December 2006

8 Dec 2006: Operation Eternal Freedom

Today the Milliways Militia joined forces with the U.S. ARMY INFANTRY, and joined the ongoing crusade to bring Democracy, Freedom and Apple Pie to those unfortunates who live beneath the tyrrany of the Axis of Undeath.

November 2006

28 Nov 2006: Embassy Function

On the 28th November members of the Milliways Militia and Sebright Union held the first of our embassy receptions since the beginning of the outbreak. Attendance was limited, but an excellent time was had by all.

9 Nov 2006: Good News

The pest exterminator turned up this morning with a skip and removed over a million cockroaches from the building. Over twenty thousand were living in my filing cabinet alone! He has assured me that they will be humanely treated and released into the sewer system, and absolutely won't be minced up, mixed with sugar and turned into eccles cakes.

While I am on the subject of sewers it is worth noting that the drains have also been repaired. I had no idea that zombie plumbers could be so efficient! Unfortunately they charged an arm and a leg, but in a city like Malton limbs are in plentiful supply.

I am pleased to announce that the embassy is now open.

8 Nov 2006: General News

An unfortunate sequence of events involving exploding drains, dodgy wiring, a cockroach infestation of biblical proportions and a malfunctioning spell checker have forced the temporary closure of our embassy. The diplomatic staff offer the Sebright Union our most sincere apologies for our absence. Hopefully we will be up and running again soon.

7 Nov 2006: Operation Azure Sea

Today the Milliways Militia fine art appreciation society began their long awaited cultural exchange programme. A guided tour of the Sebright Museums art collection, followed by a brief goodwill visit to St Columbanus's hospital confirms our dedication to the cultural well being of the citizens of Lerwill Heights.

2 Nov 2006: General News

Established diplomatic contact with the Sebright Union. A mutual defence agreement has been proposed.

October 2006

31 Oct 2006: Operation Tender Mercy

Today The Milliways Militia tended to the sick & officially opened the new trauma ward at St Columbanus's hospital.

25 Oct 2006: Operation Farewell

Today the militia successfully defended Farewell Place Police Department against a determined and well coordinated attack. 12 terrorists were eliminated before we retreated to replenish ammunition reserves.

20 Oct 2006: Milliways Militia Reformed with new constitution.

The defence of civilians in Lerwill Heights is our primary concern.
