I have finally satisfied Mr. Gallagher that my intentions are entirely benign, and it has paid off, as they say, in spades. This morning, he supplied me with a list of the names of some (but not all) of the escapees who left Malton with him via the underground tunnels. (Before I continue, I would like to make clear that I gave Mr. Gallagher my word that I would not divulge the identities or locations of the fellow escapees; other members of the Commission ought not to trouble themselves with asking me.) One of the first fellows with whom I spoke was very helpful; he had retrieved some documents from Fort Creedy before he left, and he was kind enough to entrust them to me for the benefit of my investigation.
Fort Creedy was the home base of the elite combat unit Omega Squadron. The documents I uncovered revealed that NecroTech, Weapons Division and other corporations had been working with Omega Squadron in the course of certain projects. In late June and early July, Omega Squadron were scheduled to perform field exercises at Titley Park; the name of the exercise was Delta Alpha Omega.
According to the documents, Delta Alpha Omega was an attempt to increase a soldier's survivability. The details are not entirely clear (some of the documents were bloodied and unreadable, and parts of the document are in some sort of code); however, a partial roster lists some several dozen soldiers' names, followed by the words "Placebo" or "Soma."
The documents predate the initial trials of Delta Alpha Omega, and the epidemic which followed seems to have ensured that the results of the exercises may never be known. However, I suspect that these tests were the cause of Agent 50's initial introduction into the city of Malton.
