No new groups will be permitted to enter Category:Historical Groups once this policy is enacted. In addition, use of {{HistoricalGroup}} and {{HistoricalGroupTalk}} will be prohibited on group pages of groups not already accepted into the category. Groups accepted into the category prior to this policy becoming official will be grandfathered in under the old policy and will retain any benefits due them under that policy or any others still in effect.
Category talk:Historical Groups will be modified such that the voting instructions and sections will be removed, leaving it as an archive and discussion page. Similarly, Category:Historical Groups shall have a link to this policy, along with an explanation that it is now closed to newcomers, added to the top in place of the instructions for entering the category.
Users adding either the Historical Groups category or the previously mentioned templates to their group pages should be told not to do so on their talk page and must have their edits undone. Users adding the templates or the category may be considered to be engaging in acts of vandalism, though good faith should be assumed when practical.
