You are inside the Portman Building, an elongated building with offices. The floor is a slick, broken mess of dried and fresh blood. The door to the building has been secured.

There are two dead bodies here. You recognize Volker and Totes.

You examine the dead bodies. You have some questions and you make a list of them in your head:

1) How did Volker know precisely where to find you? This you explain with the application of that notion, "He had a thing inside of him that did strange things; therefore, this strangeness must have affected him in finding you precisely where you were, and this is the case because he found you." That solved, next question.

2) Why only Volker? This problem is clearly satisfied by the prior explanation; and, probably, there was some search party sent out shortly after radio contact was made, and then they split up to cover more ground, and that prior explanation again covers why it was more likely that Volker was the one to find you, not someone else.

3) How did this happen? This being the mess and corpses of Volker and Totes, you can discern from the apparent lack of any other explanation, thus leaving the explanation of whatever was strange with Volker brought this about, that Volker killed Totes, or brought her close enough to death to effectively secure it. (Here the question of "How long was Volker possessed of this thing?" and "Why was it never detected?" and "However are you to explain this, if you ever find your companions again, when you do not properly understand it yourself?" But you discard this issues as being too troublesome, and asking attention to a depth that you will not tire yourself to try.

4) Why am I here and where am I going? The first part is rather impossible to answer without reducing it to a question of mechanics of what and how, and the second part taken simply is simple enough to answer but difficult to act upon. You think you should head out the door after this, and go in some direction, in some way, at some pace, with the specifics so far ambiguous.

5) "When I examine these corpses, instead of merely postulating the examination of the corpses, what will I find?" You think the best answer for this is to do it yourself, as there is nobody else around, and you have been thinking to yourself long enough; or the mysterious, non-existent voice has been nudging your "examinatory prowess" long enough.
