User:Dr Emilio Lizardo/Gallarus White Eyes
Born with white pupils and seen as an ill-fated sign, Gallarus was abadoned by his family at the foot of a gnarled and ancient tree. The tree was special to a sect of druidic cultists and one of their number, a hermit called Friskus, discovered the infant. Taught druidic rights by the hermit, Gallarus spent his early years living in a small cave in northern Gaul. At age 10, Friskus was mauled to death by an enormous black bear. Hungry and scared, Gallarus climbed down out of the mountains in search of food. The smell of cooking meat drew the young Gallarus into the camp of the first Cohort of the 13th Roman Legion. Bedraggled, half-starved and with his wild white eyes, the legionairies saw the young boy as a sign from the gods and adopted him as their mascot.
His feral instincts often got him into trouble stealing food and shiny objects. Yet life among the legionairies taught him the skills of a soldier. Eventually he became a mounted auxilliary attached to the legions and saw extensive action against the blue painted devils of Britain. While stationed at Fort Malton in what is today Yorkshire, Gallarus fell in with a group of mercenaries from Clan McGreggor. Together they concocted a plan to hijack the Legion's paychest as it passed through a signal station at Ravenclaw.
The heist went off without a hitch, unfortunately for Gallarus, the McGreggors had no intention of sharing their gold with him. They knocked him unconscious and left him as a scapegoat for the Roman authorities. Captured, tried, and executed - Gallarus' corpse was tossed into a nearbye peat bog where it sat for centuries.
When a university archeology team dug him up in the early 1900's he was carted off to Malton where he spent decades as a popular museum exhibit known as the 'Bog Man.' Tourists flocked to see the mysterious warrior with jet black body draped in a ragged red legionairy cloak.
At some point during the early outbreak of zombies in Malton, a group of ravenous undead broke into the museum where Gallarus was displayed. After smashing the sealed glass display the zombies immediately began feasting on his body. Not until several chunks of the leathery peat-soaked flesh had been ripped free, did the brave curator investigate and chase away the rotten crowd with a fire axe. The disease laden spittle of the zombies somehow took hold within the old corpse and several hours later Gallarus found himself standing again after two millenia of being being dead!
Stumbling into the street, he followed the urgings of his insatiable hunger and his desire to exact revenge upon the traitorous McGreggors. His rampage lasted several days until he was captured by Dr Lizardo in Rostron Plaza. Bound in tight ropes and chains, he was taken to the Lowther Building and subjected to all kinds of bizarre tests . During a particularily bloody zombie break-in he was able to escape Dr. Lizardo's clutches and flee into the dark of the quarantined city. Blinded by fury and rage and fueled by murky memories of the myriad injustices perpetrated upon him, Gallarus attacked and virtually destroyed the bronze statue atop the Dill Monument. Loud feeding groans from the vicinity of Fort Creedy drew Gallarus deeper into the city where he now prowls searching for descendants of the McGreggor Clan and Doctors to eat.
Dual Nature
After a few months roaming the streets of Malton slaking his thirst for revenge, Gallarus was unexpectedly revived while attacking a ramshackle church in the south of Vinetown. He interpreted this event as a sign from above and took to the path of survivor. Although speach is very difficult for Gallarus given his extreme deterioration, he did manage to make some friends among the living. Now, when he breathes in the fresh air of life, he considers himself a member of The Holdouts of Malton.
