About
Maverick Farrant was my first character. He does a lot of meta-gaming, and has a strong focus on survivor communication. Specifically the fact that many survivors do not do enough of it. He gave one lecture on the subject early in 2009 for the MCM, and looks forward to reminding all of the survivors of Malton of the multitude of tools at their fingertips. Already possessing all skills except for the Brain Rot tree, gaining experience is rather negligible for him at this point. Most of his time and AP is spent scouting the OBR's area of operation and talking to locals. You can also find him looking at the fine art in one of the many museums in the Rose District, or kicking back at the pub. If you don't see or hear him in the Rose District he is probably roaming the streets of Malton with 404:Barhah Not Found and stabbing people in the neck with needles. Maverick was officially retired in the late fall of 2010, though he is occassionally active for short spurts.
HistoryMaverick Farrant started out in a green suburb in southwestern Malton. Not knowing what to do, he attacked a zombie and then spent the rest of his AP trying to find a place to sleep... which was not to be found because the place was overbarricaded like a general's daughter. Naturally, he was quite the shambler when he woke up. Stumbling his way north, he finally got revived by some of the friendly folks of the Olney Militia in North Blythville. Thanking them he stumbled to the quiet streets of Mornington and made friends with The Abandoned Warriors. He then started combing through various books and noted that Malton was indeed quite vast and had a number of great modes of communication that his research suggested were horribly underused. Deciding to take a stand, he created the Order of the Black Rose--a group that would strive for as much inter-member communication as possible, while being extremely fun. He knew he had to make them unique as well, so he decided that the OBR would embrace one of the districts of Malton and call it their own. That was December of 2008. Since then the OBR has steadily increased their membership every month, and made allies with many survivor groups in the five districts that they call home. Maverick continued to lead the Order of the Black Rose into the new decade, as well as starting a potential trend of motivational speeches and lectures on communication. In his work with 404:Barhah Not Found, Maverick has also taken up the call to become a NecroWatch technician while he works with them to bring suburbs back from the brink. Maverick Farrant officially retired from his position as the leader of the Order of the Black Rose after almost two years at the helm. While not as active as he once was, he can still be found on occassion working revive points or making radio broadcasts with the Rose District.
Back storyBefore the outbreak, radio DJ "Maverick Farrant" was living well--friends, enough money to be comfortable but still be humble, and more telecommunication devices than any one person should ever own. Still, he was a happy bachelor content with his lot in life and relatively indifferent about finding someone to share it with. Then, IT happened. It began slowly enough. News stories attributed to grave robbers. Businesses all over Malton reporting people not showing up for work. But it kept getting worse. Reality struck home--and hard--when he arrived at work one afternoon to find the parking lot less than half full. He didn't even think twice about the fact that the overnight DJ's car was still parked outside... until he walked in the building and saw the blood on the walls. Partially eaten bodies in the bathrooms. Broken windows in the lobby. The lights in the studio barely illuminating two people, well they were people at one time. He recognized one as the overnight DJ; the young man he had hired now with the bloodshot eyes, slack-jawed, and pounding on the door to get out of the studio. As the creature let out a bloodcurdling moan, Maverick turned and walked away, his face an ashen mask. He grabbed the portable radio equipment they used for remote broadcasts and put it in his little sedan as quickly as he could. A tear crawled down his cheek as he walked away from the radio station--but he vowed that he would be back. |
