Who is he?
Though often referred to as one of those “Survivalist" types by his friends and neighbors, he thought himself to be more of a pragmatist. Mister Sandmann went about his life preparing for that day he was certain would come. Everything he would ever need; food, water, medical supplies, fuel, guns, ammo and much more was stored in his little “cabin" in the woods. Nuclear war, plague, invasions, any “End of the World as We Know it" scenario, he was ready!
While on a trip to the city of Malton, for the International Fireman’s Convention, the unthinkable happened. Something he had never predicated could have happened. The dead began to rise. Zombies...are you kidding? That is something you only see in the movies! He never prepared or trained for something as ridiculous as zombies.
A long ways from his little “cabin", there is only one thing he can do.....
Grab his axe and get to work! It’s time to return Malton to the living.
Mister Sandmann's Creed
This is my axe. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My axe is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My axe, without me, is useless. Without my axe, I am useless.
I must swing my axe true. My axe and myself know that what counts in this war is not the rounds fired, barricades built, nor zeds revived. We know that it is the hits that count.
We will hit...
My axe is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength. I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage as I will ever guard my legs, my arms, my eyes and my heart against damage. I will keep my axe clean and ready. We will become part of each other.
We will...
Before God, I swear this creed. My axe and myself are the defenders of Malton. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life. So be it, until victory is Malton's and there are no zeds, only survivors!
Zombie Genre Reading
Dead City “Dead City” is a fantastic, balls-to-the-wall tale of survival horror that starts with a bang and never lets up. Occupying the middle ground between police procedural and zombie thriller, Joe McKinney’s first novel is the tale of a lone patrolman searching for his family over the course of one horrific night. (I couldn't put this one down until I was finished! MS)
Dying to Live Jonah Caine, a lone survivor in a zombie-infested world, struggles to understand the apocalypse in which he lives. Unable to find a moral or sane reason for the horror that surrounds him, he is overwhelmed by violence and insignificance. After wandering for months, Jonah's lonely existence dramatically changes when he discovers a group of survivors. Living in a museum-turned-compound, they are led jointly by Jack, an ever-practical and efficient military man, and Milton, a mysterious, quizzical prophet who holds a strange power over the dead.
Day by Day Armageddon One man stands virtually alone, outnumbered by billions. Follow him into the rabbit hole of his thoughts as he makes decisions, choices that mean life, or the eternal curse to walk as one of them. (Yet another one I stayed up all night reading! MS)
Reign of the Dead The Reign of the Dead Trilogy doesn't stray too far from the proven formula of horror master, George Romero. These zombies don't run, they don't talk, or any of that other MTV age garbage, but they are driven and resolute, with but one discernable goal - to feed. Who will survive?
David Wellington He wrote the "Monster" serials. 5 books in all. Thirteen Bullets is Dave's latest serial novel, available now for free online. You can support the author by ordering a copy of Monster Island
David Moody AUTUMN (5 book series) In less than twenty-four hours a vicious and virulent disease destroys almost all of the population. Billions are killed. Thousands die every second. There are no symptoms and no warnings. Within moments of infection each victim suffers a violent and agonising death. Only a handful of survivors remain. By the end of the first day those survivors wish they were dead. AUTUMN - a Night of the Living Dead for the 21st Century.
