Beer
Heals 1 HP. One use only. Doesn't cure infections. (Useful to broadcast you have Bodybuilding, so people scanning the list for those in need of healing don't assume you're fully healed if you have 50hp.) On 28th May 2008, an update allowed the use of a few household items as weapons, including beer bottle. Its base accuracy is 10% (25% with Hand To Hand Combat skill) and it does 3 point of damage - the same as fire axe (without Axe Proficiency skill.) The bottle will break after one use however. Book
Roughly 10% chance of gaining 1 XP (2 XP for Scientists). Near 100% chance to find these when searching in libraries. Small chance on each reading that it will be finished and thus discarded. Costs 1 AP to use. Crucifix
Has no current game mechanic use, but can be used for roleplaying purposes. Newspaper
Gives a short news story to read, sometimes providing some back story on the city, NecroTech, and the zombie plague. Now they may also contain useful information for the newer inhabitants of Malton. One use only. Costs 1 AP to use. Newspapers are the subject of particular loathing from a significant portion of the Urban Dead community due to their lack of practical use, and their habit of being found instead of first aid kits in hospitals. On January 19th 2007, the following update was posted:
It is unclear as to how the newspapers have been altered to provide the propaganda as yet, although there is speculation that it is based on the Peer Reviewed Wiki-Based Newspapers suggestion. However, the advice is usually found in pamphlet form, such as the following:
Some newspapers are now propaganda, such as the following:
For a full list of the stories found in newspapers, see News Stories. The 28th May 2008 update allowed the use of a few household items as weapons, including newspaper. It has 100% chance of striking the target, making it the most accurate of all weapons in the game. Ironically, it does 0 damage, so in fact it is effectively useless. Attacking the human or zombie target with a newspaper will result in the message: You slap (the target) with a newspaper. While this may be intended to be humourous, the attacker will gain no experience and will waste 1 AP. The newspaper will not be lost, and the user can use it to slap his desired target again. Attacking a portable generator gives the message: You swat at the generator. Poetry Book
Gives a short piece of poetry, usually pertaining to apocalypse, death, zombies, etc. often extracted from actual poems. Costs 1 AP to use.
Stale Candy
Stale Candy was added to the game on Halloween (31st of October) 2007. Survivors could either give the candy to another survivor or zombie, or if none were present, eat some themselves (doesn't remove it from their inventory). Despite taking no inventory percentage, only one lot of candy can be had at one time. Wine
Heals 1 HP. Doesn't cure infections. One use only. (Useful to broadcast you have Bodybuilding, so people scanning the list for those in need of healing don't assume you're healed if you have 50hp.) On 28th May 2008, an update allowed the use of a few household items as weapons, including wine bottle. Its base accuracy is 10% (25% with Hand To Hand Combat skill) and it does 3 point of damage - the same as fire axe (without Axe Proficiency skill.) The bottle will break after one use however.
Wirecutters
Formerly used to cut through wire fences, padlocks and chains on some buildings (warehouses, junkyards, power stations, etc). Since the effect is currently permanent and irreversible, and all "cuttable" barriers have been cut, wirecutters are currently useless. Since about 2nd week of September 2007 wirecutters are no longer findable.
