Testing Data
This is where I test stuff in the game. Originally it was just tangling grasp, but I've decided to test some other things as well.
Tangling Grasp Testing Data
I'm one of those types who will analyze anything and everything in a game to the point where I probably know more than some of the people who actually programmed the game (I still have yet to see a Soul Calibur 2 guide that mentions the fact that Voldo's Guillotine Weapons cause him to take 5% of the damage he deals). So as one might expect, lack of data on something in the game annoys me(especially something important enough balance-wise as attack accuracy). Tangling Grasp is one of those things. Sure, I know that attacks get +10% accuracy while you have the enemy in your grasp, but no matter how much I searched this wiki, I couldn't find any data on what the odds are of one losing their grip. Thus, I have decided to conduct my own tests, using my own characters.
Tangling Grasp Claw Attack (with Death Grip) Testing Data
Unless otherwise specified, all of these attacks are done against survivors, with claw attacks, and after the initial grasp has been made. Also note that these are being done with a zombie who has Death Grip and Neck Lurch (he also has Digestion, Infectious Bite, and Rend Flesh; but unless there's something Kevan's not telling us, they shouldn't have any effect).
11/2/06: Attacked 14 times. Hit 10 times. Missed once. Lost grip 3 times.
11/4/06: Attacked 14 times. Hit 6 times. Missed 3 times. Lost grip 5 times. Notes: I noticed a few abnormalities in my testing for the day. There were several times where, while grasping someone, my next attack would end up grabbing hold of them, even though I hadn't yet lost my grip. Strange, especially considering it happened a few times when my previous attack had been a hit. Hmm...perhaps there is a chance of the grip being lost even if you hit? Must consider this in future testing.
11/7/06: Attacked 7 times. Hit without losing grip 3 times. Hit and lost grip once. Missed without losing grip once. Missed and lost grip 2 times. Notes: It seems clear to me now that it is indeed possible to lose your grip when you hit. The message doesn't change, however, so the only way to know if you lost your grip or not is to see what happens on the next attack.
11/10/06 The Day Caiger's Fate Was Sealed (sorry, I'm just so happy!): Attacked 21 times. Of those, 8 were hits where I didn't lose my grip, 3 were hits where I did lose my grip, 5 were misses where I kept my grip, and 5 were misses where I lost my grip. Notes: It seems I can no longer trust the messages at all when it comes to telling whether or not I kept my grip. There were many anomalies today in that (such as misses where the game said they only "*insert name here* writhed in my grasp. Your attack does no damage." instead of "Your attack does no damage. You lose your grip on *insert name here*."). In the future I'll probably only be able to tell whether or not the grip was lost by what the next attack attempt says.
11/13/06: Attacked 8 times. Of those, 5 were hits where I kept my grip, 2 were misses where I kept my grip, 1 was a miss where I lost my grip, and 0 were hits where I lost my grip. Notes: With a heavy heart, I left Caiger. It would be great to stay longer and help defend the place against the inevitable harman counter-attack, but I need to continue my testing before the entire area is cleared of harmanz. But I shall return; especially if the harmanz foolishly decide to try and take back what they have lost.
11/15/06: Attacked 19 times. Of those, 9 were hits where I kept my grip, 0 were hits where I lost my grip, 2 were misses where I kept my grip, and 8 were misses where I lost my grip. Notes: Hmmm...interesting that there were no hits this time around where I lost my grip. Perhaps it's just a glitch that you sometimes hit but lose your grip? It would certainly explain why the message is the same as when you hit but don't lose your grip. And on a couple of unrelated notes, I got to test out my feeding drag on one survivor (whom I then killed myself anyway; I just wanted to try it out) and my infectious bite on another (I figured "hey, what the heck" and decided to bite him/her). What's funny about it is that I ran out of AP just as the infected survivor had 1 HP left. It was a few seconds before I realized it, too. Heh. I'd hate to be that survivor when he or she logs in. And as a final note, I finally got Feeding Groan today. Woohoo!
11/16/06: Attacked 6 times. Hit 3 times without losing grip. Never hit and lost grip. Missed and lost grip 2 times. Missed and kept grip once.
11/17/06: Man, was I unlucky today! Attacked 6 times. Never hit. Missed 3 times and kept grip. Missed 3 times and lost grip.
11/19/06: Well, my luck has turned around today. Attacked 22 times. Hit without losing grip 15 times. Hit and lost grip 0 times. Missed without losing grip 3 times. Missed and lost grip 3 times.
11/21/06: Some interesting stuff happened today during my testing. Out of 19 attacks, 11 were hits where I didn't lose my grip, 1 was a hit where I did lose my grip, 4 were misses where I lost my grip, and 3 were misses where I kept my grip. Notes: I once again saw that anomaly where you hit and apparently lose your grip. I am becoming more and more convinced that this is actually a glitch, which will make the task of interpreting all this data more difficult when all is said and done. Particularly strange is the fact that there were two instances today where I attacked my target to get a grip on them and apparently lost my grip at the same time (I attacked a survivor and grabbed him, but my very next attack said that I attacked him and grabbed hold of him)!
11/22/06: Attacked 14 times. Hit without losing grip 11 times. Missed but kept grip once. Missed and lost grip twice. Never hit and lost grip. Notes: Well, Bale Mall is toast, and I have a feeling that Shearbank is next (the Shacknews page hints that they are going after green suburbs), so I began shambling over there, checking buildings for harmanz as I went. I almost have enough XP for another skill, too. Hmmmm...Wonder what I should get...
11/25/06: Attacked 9 times. Hit and kept grip 3 times. Hit and lost grip once. Missed and kept grip 3 times. Missed and lost grip twice (although on the second time, the game didn't say I lost my grip when I attacked; I only found out when my next attack grabbed hold of them).
11/26/06: Only got in 1 attack today, and it was a miss where I lost my grip (although it said that I kept my grip; I only knew I had lost my grip on the next attack).
11/29/06: Attacked twice today (hey, it's still better than last time!). One was a hit where I kept my grip and the other was a miss where I lost my grip.
12/09/06: It's about time I found another "volunteer" for my testing! Attacked 21 times. Hit 13 times without losing grip. Hit and lost grip 0 times. Missed 5 times without losing grip. Missed and lost grip 3 times.
12/16/06: Now this was an interesting test subject. I killed a spray can today (or so went the name). Anyway, out of 18 attacks, 13 were hits where I didn't lose my grip, 0 were hits where I did lose my grip, 1 was a miss where I kept my grip, and 4 were misses where I lost my grip.
1/4/07: Attacked 6 times. I hit twice without losing my grip. I also missed twice and lost my grip (although one of those times it said I had kept my grip). The other two attacks were one where I missed and kept my grip and one where I hit and lost my grip.
1/7/07: Attacked 23 times. Hit 16 times without losing grip. Never hit and lost grip. Missed 3 times without losing grip. Missed and lost grip 4 times.
1/16/07: Attacked 9 times. Hit 7 times without losing grip. Missed once without losing grip. Missed once and lost grip.
1/18/07: Attacked 15 times. Hit 10 times without losing grip. Never hit and lost grip. Missed without losing grip 4 times. Missed and lost grip once.
1/22/07: Attacked 6 times. Of those attacks, 2 were misses where I kept my grip, 3 were hits where I didn't lose my grip, and 1 was a miss where I lost my grip.
1/29/07: Attacked 26 times. Hit 16 times without losing grip. Missed without losing grip 5 times. Missed and lost grip 5 times. Notes: One time when I missed and lost my grip, it had said that I had kept my grip. Also, one time when I grabbed hold of the victim, I apparently lost my grip at the same time because my next attack also grabbed hold of them.
2/5/07: Attacked 3 times today. 2 were hits where I didn't lose my grip and 1 was a miss where I did lose my grip.
2/7/07: 10 attacks today. 7 were hits where I didn't lose my grip, 2 were misses where I kept my grip, and 1 was a miss where I lost my grip.
2/13/07: Attacked 15 times today. Of those, 11 were hits where I didn't lose my grip, 3 were misses where I didn't lose my grip, and 1 was a miss where I lost my grip.
2/26/07: Attacked 8 times today. Missed and lost grip 3 times. Missed without losing grip once. Hit without losing grip 4 times.
3/12/07: Attacked 7 times. Of those attacks, 5 were hits where I kept my grip and 2 were misses where I lost my grip. I never missed without losing my grip.
3/22/07: Only 1 attack today, and it was a miss where I lost my grip.
4/3/07: Attacked 7 times. Missed and kept grip once. Hit without losing grip 4 times. Missed and lost grip twice. Notes: Why is Tangling Grasp so buggy? During my testing today, after losing my grip on a miss I tried to get my grip back my clawing at the test subject again. I missed a couple of times, and then got "Your attack does no damage. You lose your grip on XXXX". WTF?
4/5/07: Only 2 attacks today. One was a hit where I kept my grip and one was a miss where I lost my grip.
Tangling Grasp Claw Attack (no Death Grip) Testing Data
This is basically the same as the above testing, only I'll be using a character who does not have Death Grip.
1/18/07: Attacked 18 times. Missed 10 times without losing grip. Missed and lost grip 3 times. Hit without losing grip 5 times. Never hit and lost grip.
1/29/07: Attacked 22 times. Missed 6 times without losing grip. Missed and lost grip 4 times. Hit without losing grip 12 times.
2/5/07: Attacked 6 times. Missed and lost grip twice. Missed without losing grip once. Hit without losing grip 3 times. Notes: The weirdest tangling grasp-related glitch/bug I've ever seen occured today. I had missed and lost my grip and was trying to get it back by landing a successful hit. After a few misses, I got the message "Zecro writhes in your grasp. Your attack does no damage"(Zecro was the name of the test subject). I hadn't landed a successful hand attack, so how did I get my grip back? Well, for the sake of posterity, I proceeded by continuing to attack until I lost my "glitched grip" without recording those results. As far as I'm concerned they're outside the scope of my research due to the bug involved. And since the RNG doesn't have a memory, it shouldn't matter with regard to my results.
2/15/07: Attacked 17 times. Missed and lost grip 5 times. Missed without losing grip 4 times. Hit without losing grip 8 times. Notes: Hey, remember that glitch I mentioned last time? Well, it happened again. Well, sort of. You see, I had 2 AP left after missing a hand attack and losing my grip. My next attack was a miss (as in "You attack XXX and miss"). Clearly, this demonstrates that I had lost my grip and didn't magically get it back on the next attack. So since I had 1 AP left I figured, "what the heck, I'll try and infect him". So I tried a bite, and got this message "Your attack does no damage. You lose your grip on XXXXX." WTF? I magically got my grip back two attacks after I lost my grip. This is just getting weird.
2/20/07: Only one attack today, and it was a miss where I lost my grip.
2/28/07: Man, was I unlucky today! 5 attacks, and all of them were misses (kept my grip for 4 of them and lost it on 1).
3/15/07: Attacked twice today. One was a hit where I kept my grip and one was a miss where I lost my grip.
3/20/07: Attacked 18 times. Hit 12 times without losing grip. Missed 4 times without losing grip. Missed and lost grip twice.
Tangling Grasp Bite Attack (with Neck Lurch) Testing Data
These tests will consist of bites attempted while gripping the test subject with tangling grasp by a zombie who possesses neck lurch.
1/31/07: Attacked 9 times. Of those times, 4 were misses where I lost my grip, 1 was a miss where I didn't lose my grip, and 4 were hits.
2/5/07: Attacked 4 times. 2 were hits where I didn't lose my grip, 1 was a miss where I didn't lose my grip, and 1 was a miss where I did lose my grip.
2/7/07: Attacked 16 times. 8 were hits where I didn't lose my grip, 4 were misses where I lost my grip, and 4 were misses where I kept my grip.
2/12/07: Attacked 9 times. 6 were hits where I didn't lose my grip, and 3 were misses where I lost my grip.
2/13/07: Attacked 5 times. Hit and kept grip twice. Missed and lost grip once. Missed without losing grip twice.
2/14/07: Attacked twice today. One was a hit where I kept my grip, and one was a miss where I lost my grip.
2/19/07: Attacked 8 times today. 3 were hits where I kept my grip, 4 were misses where I lost my grip, and 1 was a miss where I lost my grip.
2/26/07: Only 1 attack today, and it was a miss where I kept my grip.
3/12/07: Attacked 14 times. Missed and lost grip 4 times. Missed without losing grip 5 times. Hit without losing grip 5 times.
3/19/07: Attacked 8 times today. 5 were misses where I lost my grip and 3 were hits where I kept my grip.
3/22/07: Boy, have I been unlucky today! None of my tests today have had a single hit. Anyway, I attacked 9 times today and of them 5 were misses where I kept my grip and 4 were misses where I lost my grip.
4/10/07: Attacked 22 times. Missed without losing grip 9 times. Missed and lost grip 5 times. Hit without losing grip 8 times.
4/16/07: Atttacked 7 times. Hit and kept grip 5 times. Missed and kept grip once. Missed and lost grip once. Notes: At one point in my testing today, I missed and lost my grip, then went to attack with my claws to re-establish my grip, and found that I still had a grip on them! For the sake of consistency (and to prevent data contamination), I have not included the last strike (the one where it said I lost my grip but somehow kept it) or anything after it.
5/14/07: Attacked 4 times. Two were hits where I kept my grip and two were misses where I kept my grip.
Tangling Grasp Bite Attack (no Neck Lurch) Testing Data
These will be bites from a zombie without neck lurch while holding onto the victim with tangling grasp.
1/30/07: Attacked 14 times. Hit 4 times without losing grip. Missed 5 times without losing grip. Missed and lost grip 5 times.
2/5/07: Attacked 9 times. Hit 4 times without losing my grip, missed and lost my grip 2 times, and missed without losing my grip 3 times.
2/8/07: Attacked 17 times. Hit without losing grip 7 times. Missed without losing grip 4 times. Missed and lost grip 6 times.
2/20/07: 7 attacks today. 2 were hits where I kept my grip, 3 were misses where I kept my grip, and 2 were misses where I didn't lose my grip.
2/28/07: 4 attacks today. 2 were hits where I kept my grip and 2 were misses where I lost my grip.
3/15/07: 13 attacks today. Of those, 5 were misses where I kept my grip, 5 were misses where I lost my grip, and 3 were hits where I kept my grip.

Pool Cue Breakage Data
Here I'm going to be testing the odds at which a pool cue breaks. I'll be assuming for this testing that the pool cue can only break when it hits.

Everything under this section is search data.
Powered Mall Gun Store (with Bargain Hunting) Search Data
For this testing, I'll be using characters who have shopping and Bargain Hunting. The mall will also be powered.
11/20/06: Searched 24 times. Found 3 shotgun shells. Found nothing 16 times. Found 1 pistol clip. Found 4 pistols (1 had 0 shots in it, 1 had 2 shots in it, 1 had 6 shots in it, and the other one had 1 shot in it).
11/22/06: Searched 20 times. Found 4 Pistol Clips, 2 Shotgun shells, and 1 Shotgun (w/ 2 shells). The other 13 searches came up with nothing.
11/23/06: Searched 15 times. Found 3 shotgun shells. Found 3 pistol clips. Found a shotgun (2 shots). Found 3 pistols (2 had 1 shot in them and the third had 3 shots in it). The other 5 searches turned up nothing.
11/24/06: Searched 6 times. Found 1 shotgun (1 shot in it) and 1 shotgun shell. Other 4 searches yielded nothing.
11/26/06: Searched 32 times. Found 4 shotgun shells, 3 pistol clips, 3 pistols (2 had 3 shots in them and 1 had 6 shots in it), and 2 shotguns (both had 2 shots in them). Other 20 searches came up with nothing (wow, that's a whole lot of nothing, ay?).
12/04/06: Searched 26 times. Found 4 pistols (the first one had 6 shots in it, the second had 3 shots, the third had 4 shots, and the fourth had only 1 shot in it). Found 5 shotguns (2 of them had 1 shot in them, and the other 3 were all empty). Also found 4 pistol clips and 3 shotgun shells. Other 10 searches turned up nothing.
12/05/06: Searched 31 times. Found 3 shotgun shells, 7 pistol clips, 2 shotguns (1 had 2 shots in it and the other had 0 shots in it), and 4 pistols (1 had 1 shot in it, another had 2 shots in it, another had 3 shots in it, and the last one had 6 shots in it). Other 15 searches turned up nothing.
12/06/06: Searched 20 times. Found 4 shotgun shells, 2 shotguns (each had 1 shot in it), 1 pistol (4 shots in it), and 1 pistol clip. Other 12 searches came up empty.
12/16/06: Searched 24 times. Found 2 shotguns (1 had 2 shots in it and the other had 1 shot in it), 1 pistol (0 shots in it), 3 shotgun shells, and 3 pistol clips. Other 15 searches came up with nothing.
12/25/06: Merry Christmas to all. Today I searched 25 times and found 7 shotgun shells (whoopie!), 2 pistols (1 shot and 2 shots, respectively), 1 shotgun (empty), and 5 pistol clips. Other 10 searches got me coal. Ok, ok, so it was really nothing those 10 times, but coal would have been funny, eh?
12/28/06: Out of 10 searches, 7 came up with nothing, 2 came up with shotgun shells, and 1 came up with a pistol clip.
12/30/06: Out of 30 searches, 16 came up with nothing, 5 yielded pistol clips, 4 got me pistols (0, 1, 3, and 4 shots respectively), 2 yielded shotguns (0 and 1 shot, respectively), and 3 got me shotgun shells.
12/31/06: Searched 9 times. Found 2 pistol clips and 2 shotguns (1 had 2 shots in it and the other was empty). Other 5 searches came up with nothing.
1/4/07: Searched 10 times. Found 2 pistol clips, 2 shotgun shells, and 1 pistol (empty). Other 5 searches came up empty.
1/11/07: Searched 30 times. Found 2 shotgun shells, 6 pistol clips, and 1 pistol (3 shots). Other 21 searches were all for naught.
4/30/07: Wow, haven't done this one in a while. Anyway, I only searched 6 times. Got 2 pistol clips, 1 shotgun shell, 1 shotgun (2 shots), and 1 pistol (6 shots). Found nothing once.
Powered Factory Search Data
Like the title says, I'll be in a powered Factory for this testing.
12/04/06: Searched 23 times. Found 2 fuel cans, 1 fire axe, 1 crowbar, and 1 length of pipe. Other 18 searches came up empty.
12/05/06: Searched 47 times. Found 5 lengths of pipe, 3 portable generators (yeah, now I can find lots of gennys!), 3 wirecutters, 2 crowbars, 1 fuel can, and 1 fire axe. Other 32 searches came up with nothing.
12/06/06: Searched 30 times. Found 3 fuel cans, 1 portable generator, 2 crowbars, 5 lengths of pipe, 1 pair of wirecutters, and 2 fire axes. Other 16 searches came up empty.
12/07/06: Searched 50 times. Found 5 lengths of pipe, 4 fire axes, 2 portable generators, 1 fuel can, 1 pair of wirecutters, and 1 crowbar. Other 36 searches yielded nothing.
12/08/06: Searched 33 times. Found 6 lengths of pipe, 1 pair of wirecutters, and 1 fuel can. The other 25 searches didn't bear fruit (or anything else, for that matter).
12/17/06: Been a little while since I did this, eh? Anyway, out of 20 searches I found nothing 16 times, a fuel can once, a length of pipe 2 times, and a portable generator once.
1/8/07: Out of 20 searches, I found nothing 4 times, a portable generator once, a crowbar once, a fire axe once, and a length of pipe twice.
1/16/07: Only searched twice today. Found a crowbar and a fuel can.
1/29/07: Searched 10 times today. Found a fire axe, length of pipe, portable generator, and a pair of wirecutters. Other 6 attempts came up with nothing.

1/25/07: Out of 24 searches, I got 5 DNA extractors and 2 GPS units. Other 17 searches turned up nothing.
1/29/07: Searched 14 times. Found 2 syringes and 1 DNA extractor. Found nothing on the other 11 attempts.
2/1/07: Searched 10 times. Found 1 syringe, 1 DNA extractor, and 1 GPS unit. Other 7 searches were fruitless.
3/19/07: Wow, it's been over a month since I last did this. Well, anyway, out of 20 searches I found 1 DNA extractor, 2 GPS units, and 4 syringes today. The other 13 searches might as well have been a waste of time.
4/5/07: Searched 14 times. Found 2 syringes and 2 GPS units. Other 10 searches came up with nothing.
4/10/07: Searched 3 times. Found nothing.

Barricade Construction Odds
Basically, I'm going to be building barricades and recording data to try and find out what the odds of successfully putting up another level of barricades are when the building's barricades are at a given level. For consistency purposes, I'll check the given area for active players first and start each session by barricading or de-barricading until I get a change to the building's description. For example, if the building says VS when I log on, it could mean VS, VS+1, or VS+2; so I might de-barricade until the description changes to QS (which I will then know to be QS+2, since one can't remove more than one level of barricades at a time). As far as I know there aren't any barricade levels beyond 17 (though one can still "succeed" and "fail" to add to the barricades), so I'll only go up to level 16.
Remember, this is what the odds are of successfully adding another level of barricade at the given level.
