Valaraukar was one of the first into Malton when the devastation occurred, called by friends who were dead by the time he arrived. He spent the first few weeks wandering in a daze, breaking his previous pacifist oath as he killed to survive. Soon he stumbled wearily into the suburb of Yagoton, where he met a fledgling new group calling itself The Abandoned and dedicated to protecting another new group, the Yagoton Revivification Clinic. Sensing the potential and the need for such community-based groups, Valaraukar quickly enlisted, helping The Abandoned secure and protect Yagoton. He planned The Abandoned's first expansion into Millen Hills, where he established close contacts with the 4-H defenders there.
After some time, Valaraukar realized that he was not as productive as he could be in helping the community. He had put his politics behind him as the dead rose, but as it became increasingly clear that the fight with the undead would last years, not months, he began to rethink his role life. He retreated into the Rounsefell Library in east Yagoton, spending over a year in deep isolation as he studied and contemplated. For over a year he cut himself off from the world in this way.
At the end of his hermitage, Valarauker emerged back into Yagoton a changed man. He now eschews violence, even against zombies, and refuses to carry any weapon other than his fire axe, which he uses against barricades. He has dedicated himself to providing free healthcare and revivification services to the citizens of Yagoton, wandering from building to building healing the wounds of his fellow survivors. Unlike some groups, he recognizes that zombies will never be allies with humans - however, he does not feel that it is his place to kill them, although he encourages others to do so.
He also emerged from his hermitage with a fresh sense of political principals. While still an active member of The Abandoned, Valaraukar believes that the proper way to organize a post-Zombie society is through the tenants of constructive anarchism, forming consensus on important decisions and organizing in small communities. However, he realizes that it will be a slow process of education before others turn to his point of view, and in the meantime he works with one of the least hierarchical, most successful groups in Malton. Between The Abandoned and the YRC, Yagoton is ripe for a slow change to an anarchist political and social restructuring, and Valaraukar awaits that day patiently.
Lately, he has developed a holistic approach to the medical profession, believing strongly that he must tend to both the physical and mental needs of patients. To that extent, he has furthered a political graffiti campaign calling for Free Healthcare, and has begun hosting a nightly radioshow under the nom de guerre "Doc Vala".
Doc Vala
Recently, Valaraukar has begun a radio campaign in Yagoton to increase morale and keep spirits up. Going by the nom de guerre "Doc Vala", Valaraukar extols his fellow survivors to kill zombies and also to live life to the fullest amidst all the chaos and death, as a means of psychologically coping with the trauma of the zombie infestation. Valaraukar has adopted the philosophy of the Malton Medical Staff and Malton College of Medicine that in-game chatter, jokes, and camaraderie is just as important as shooting zombies and maintaing barricades.
He attempts to keep the airwaves fun with jokes and amusing anecdotes, to combat the radio-spam of some griefers. You can hear his show on radio frequency 26.61 most nights.
