Basic Info:

  • Excellent place to find first aid kits. Zombies frequently check inside.
  • Portable Generators have a use other than powering the lights and increasing search probability in hospitals. Players with the Surgery Skill can heal for 15 HP if the Hospital has a fueled up Generator.
  • Hospitals can be barricaded normally.
  • Among the internal descriptions found in Hospitals:
    • "...its wards and corridors blackened with the soot of a recent fire"
    • "...its empty wards criss-crossed with snapped quarantine tape."
    • "...one of the city's psychiatric hospitals."
    • "...dark corridors leading through abandoned wards."
    • "...its emergency room in disarray."
    • "...its lobby covered with quarantine posters."
    • "...a children's hospital with bright murals across the walls. "
    • "The main lobby is riddled with bullet holes."
    • "It was one of the last to be evacuated, and seems to have been cleared out in a hurry."
    • "...a derelict hospital that was closed down years ago."

Description

Maltonhospitals.PNG

Blaise General Hospital is a hospital located in the suburb of Dulston, near the southern border with the suburb of Pescodside. Ever since the initial outbreak, known to some as the "Malton Incident", the hospital has done its best to help treat the injured and provide safe harbor for the citizens of Malton, but more often then not it has come under siege from the zombie hordes. Many are the times that the hospital has suffered for its attempts to keep its barricades low enough to let inexperienced survivors inside, as zombies have on several occasions breached the hospital's light defenses.

Noted NecroTech scientist, Caleb Usher is recorded as having once worked as one of the medical staff at Blaise General Hospital during early-January 2006. During this period Caleb had hopes of becoming the guiding influence for the hospital's goals in providing medical aid and shelter to all lower-level survivors throughout the suburb. Unfortunately these hopes were shattered when zombies overran the hospital twice in rapid succession, slaughtering many of the survivors they found inside and causing the remainder to scatter to safer shelters, including Caleb.

Mandate

The staff at Blaise General Hospital try to always support the following ideals:

  1. To provide medical assistance to anyone and everyone who enters.
  2. To cure the infected.
  3. To keep its doors open to lower level survivors, if possible.

It is asked that survivors please note whether or not there is a portable generator within the hospital, and whether it has fuel or not. As a working portable generator is required for the Surgery skill it is asked the survivors provide support by replacing either the generator when destroyed or refilling its fuel supply when its exhausted. This in turn will allow the medical staff to provide more efficient aid to the injured.

Barricade Policy

This building must never be more than Very Strongly (VS+2) barricaded. This barricade level has been set forth in the Dulston Optimal Defense Diagram, a strategic barricade policy that is enforced by all member groups of the Dulston Alliance. As a hospital it is important that every effort be made to keep an "open door" policy (VS+2 barricades) so that lower level survivors can find the medical aid they need. Visitors are requested to never barricade beyond Very Strongly unless the building is currently under siege from 5 or more zombies. Note that any survivors associated with the Dulston Alliance have the right to lower the barricades back to Very Strongly if they discover them raised higher without just cause.

Current Events

December 20th, 2008 - Recon report indicates that the hospital is in good shape these days. The hospital is Very Strongly barricaded, as per hospital policy.

December 18th, 2008 - Robicus, Field Captain of the D.I.T.P.S's mobile unit, reported that the hospital was Very Strongly barricaded. He reported that there were a few zombies outside, but no exact numbers. One of the zombies was identified as ILuv, whose name is very misleading as the zombie belonged to the notorious horde, the Dead.

November 28th, 2008 - Blaise General Hospital was a buzz of activity as members of FOXHOUND were spotted moving among the hospital's hallways. There appeared to be several members here at the very least, a small strike force. As to what FOXHOUND's main objective was no one knows as they did not appear to be talkative on the subject. No doubt though the Dulston Alliance has an operation in the works and the hospital is once again serving as a launch point for it.

September 19th, 2008 - Dulston Alliance recon reported that the hospital had fallen. No further information or details were forthcoming.

September 17th, 2008 - Dead vs Blue recon reported that their efforts to resecure buildings in southeast Dulston was progressing as planned. At this time Blaise General Hospital was repaired and re-barricaded.

September 9th, 2008 - Imperium recon reported that the hospital was holding strong, thanks to the divine will of the Emperor and the strength of his chosen. Cpt Garviel Loken himself oversaw the maintenance of the hospital's defenses. The Imperium forces appeared to be doing well holding southeast Dulston.

September 5th, 2008 - Imperium recon reported that the hospital had been recaptured and powered. At this time a small mob of 7 zombies were outside sieging the hospital.

September 4th, 2008 - The incursion by the Imperium apparently did not go without notice, as Cpt Garviel Loken reported that the hospital was overrun by zombies that night. It's unclear whether the Imperium forces plan to regroup elsewhere or if they plan to recapture the hospital.

September 3rd, 2008 - NEWS FLASH! Cpt Garviel Loken, Lord General Militant of the Imperium, has led his forces from Gibsonton to Blaise General Hospital where he is staging the groundwork for a unified assault against zombie agressors in Dulston. At this time the hospital is clear of zombies (obviously), repaired, and Very Strongly barricaded. The Dulston Alliance salutes its brave allies.

August 8th, 2008 - Good news in Blaise: the recent PKers Bruce1nr and the shoemaker (of the Shamblin' Crooners) have been killed and are now lying dead outside of nearby Stembridge Crescent Fire Station. If you are in the area and have revive syringes, do us all a favor and ignore these two zombies.

August 4th, 2008 - Well as far as I can tell the zombies have all gone. If they are there it's only about one or two. The hospital is perfectly safe for now--Disc10 10:42, 4 August 2008 (BST)

August 1st, 2008 - I made a quick return to the hospital and booted out the few zeds that had taken up residence. The building has been repaired, and the barricades have been brought back up to VSB. The fall of Blaise was not a loss for the Guardians, but simply a setback. A generator will soon be set up inside in hopes that the hospital can once again become a safe haven for the lower leveled scientists and wounded survivors. There are roughly 25 or so zeds on the outside however, so any and all back up would be appreciated.--KittenGuard 06:38, 2 August 2008 (BST)

July 31st, 2008 - The hospital has fallen. Zed presence inside and out.

July 19th, 2008 - The generator is destroyed. Rumor has it a new group is forming just to defend the hospital.

July 16th, 2008 - Hospital has about 8 zombies outside. Barricades up to VSB+2. I've left to get more ammo but I will return. Keep fighting guys!--Disc10 08:21, 16 July 2008 (BST)

November 6th, 2007 - The hospital is currently under human control and has been for some time now. The whole of Dulston is pretty much Zombie free. A local pharmacist has decided to take up residency inside the hospital--it is hoped that his constant presence will help add to the current stability of the area by providing treatment and medication to any passers-by and those attempting to defend the hospital from the moderately large, yet infrequent waves of zombie attacks.

June 4th, 2007 - The hospital is still overrun by a force of four zombies, along with another eight outside. Many buildings around it are cracked open, and the hospital itself is still abandoned at the time of this report. It would seem that a more concentrated survivor force is necessary to root out the undead from the southeast corner of Dulston. One of the recently dead defenders, Ryan Marsh, had this to say, "I just love how every time a building gets broken into, all of the 'defenders' flee and leave little more than two people behind to try and save the place."

June 1st, 2007 - More than a year has passed since the last news item. How odd. It should be reported then that a force of 16 zombies attacked the hospital and have breached its defenses. The defenders are fighting strong though and hopes run high that it may be possible to hold them off until reinforcements arrive. Or so many survivors hope.

May 16th, 2006 - After their initial warm welcome and success here a few weeks ago one of the Shamblin' Crooners returned for an encore performance to satisfy all the zombie group's fans who still hungered for more Z!ng, Z!ng. Again, the only fatalities were all good natured ones.

April 7th, 2006 - The Shamblin' Crooners made their usual grand entrance and entertained everyone inside with their famous "break-in & concert" style of zombie rock. Some humans were eaten. Some zombies were shot. Bottom line, everyone had fun. Rock on Crooners, rock on...

February 5th, 2006 - The hospital has been retaken, in part due to the lowering zombie numbers which have continued to drop within Dulston after the departure of the Drunken Dead, Bela Lugosi Fan Klub, and Mall Tour '06 zombie hordes.

January 21st, 2006 - The hospital has been completely overrun... no survivors.

January 20th, 2006 - The hospital was not completely overrun, but the once large survivor population (30-35), had been decimated to a mere 8 survivors. The zombies had been repelled, but they could be seen standing outside the barricades. Now numbering over 10 zombies the threat they represented to the hospital was more real than ever before.

That night, starting around 5:00 PM (EST), Caleb Usher attempted to maintain a constant vigil on the barricades in hopes of keeping the zombie threat that was growing outside at bay. At first the task seemed to be well in hand, but by 11:00 PM (EST) a survivor informed us there were over 15 zombies standing outside… As Caleb continued to try and maintain the barricades at Very Strongly, and no higher, the situation started to look grim.

Needless to say, about every 2 hours the zombies tried to break inside, and each time Caleb stepped forward to rebuff their efforts. Still, for every 4 AP he regained during this time he lost 8 AP re-barricading. As a scientist he knew the numbers were not adding up in his favor. It was a losing battle. With a heavy heart Caleb told everyone in the hospital as much and urged them to flee now while he did his best to hold the barricades for them.

At 12:26 AM, after over 7 hours of 15 minute shifts Caleb finally was at 9 AP when another attack came. At 6 AP he realized it was over when the attacks would not abate even in light of the fact that the zombies must have seen the barricades being restored as quickly as they had dropped. Leaving his fellow survivors with the hope that those who remained would survive he departed for Lentell Walk Police Department to beseech that they send aid to the embattled hospital.

January 19th, 2006 - The 'minor' zombie threat had turned serious when the hospital's barricades were breached that night. The zombies entered and began attacking survivors. Efforts were made to subdue them, but there were casualties nonetheless. It was obvious survivors had grown complacent within the relative safety of the hospital and the few experienced survivors were not able to react in time.

January 19th, 2006 - Caleb Usher has voiced concerns against raising the barricades above Very Strongly, even in light of the zombie threat that has seen attacks made against the hospital's barricades. Caleb is quoted as saying, "Can we turn away our fellow citizens? Or raise our barricades higher in hopes that the zombies will simply leave us alone? I say we cannot."

While several of the more vocal survivors at the hospital agreed with Caleb others murmured that he was being too naive of the threat that stood at their very doorstep. The fact that survivors who sided with Caleb assisted him in keeping the barricades at Very Strongly only added to their concern.

Reports show that there are 3 zombies currently outside the hospital. All surrounding buildings were also checked, confirming no further zombie threat lay hidden within them. In the past the hospital's survivors had held off twice this number and many were confident of the outcome of dealing with this new threat.

January 18th, 2006 - A doctor returning from a medical visit to Lentell Walk Police Department reports that the precinct is heavily barricaded. Leading hospital staff complain about the obvious restriction this will place on defenders inside the hospital who do not possess free running, but need to replenish spent ammunition.

A NecroTech technician revived a zombie who happened to be a member of the Bela Lugosi Fan Klub, but the ex-zombie was not thrilled with the prospect of life. The survivor began ranting about killing the scientist who revived him and along with the scientist's entire family. It was either a ploy to get himself killed, or he simply didn't care who heard him. Realizing the fellow couldn't be taken lightly survivors decided to oblige him by fulfilling his death wish and then dumped the body in the refuse bin outside.

January 16th, 2006 - Zombies continue to be spotted in surrounding blocks. Word came that the Pilton Building had been overrun and 2 zombies were spotted inside. Efforts were made to re-barricade the building and survivors were made aware of the threat. By the end of the day both zombies had been killed and their bodies dumped into the street.

January 14th, 2006 - So far the survivors at the hospital have done a great job of quelling the zombie horde within the surrounding blocks, but some survivors have voiced concerns about the growing zombie threat nearby as zombies continue to kill lower-level survivors and potentially add them to their numbers. Over time zombie numbers continue to steadily grow while survivor numbers slowly dwindle. Survivors, like Caleb Usher, have suggested runners be sent north to The Beale Building to locate revivification syringes in order to tip the balance back in the hospital's favor. The reason for the longer trek is in part due to rumors that The Waish Building is over-barricaded.
