Description
The Preston Building is a NecroTech facility located in the suburb of South Blythville. Though a faceless corporate structure to the uninitiated, this facility acts as the heart of MARK-3 serum research for NecroTech within the suburb. Staff at this building commonly revive zombies at nearby revive points. This facility is one of four NecroTech facilities found in the suburb. Another four-storey grey-stone building flanked by trees, the Preston Building is the primary supply point for the Revivification Point at Gee Avenue (26,72).
Members of project NecroWatch renovated the facility in recent months, as they installed sensor eyes for A.L.I.C.E. throughout the building and uploaded NecroNet 2.0 into the facility's system terminals.
Mandate
NecroTech staff continue to follow directive 42-A, issued by the head office on January 19th 2006, with the activation and manufacture of MK-II revivification syringes. While the cost in time and effort are currently high the certainty provided by being able to manufacture a constant stream of syringes has mitigated early concerns.
The activation of NecroNet with all NecroTech buildings has also allowed scientists to apply the DNA tracking research they have gathered to date. The field research staff stationed at the Preston Building feel certain that they can crack the mystery surrounding the spread of the virus as well as help monitor aberrant zombie activity within South Blythville.
Barricade Policy
According to the South Blythville Barricade Plan, this building should be kept at Extremely Heavily Barricaded (EHB) at all times. This building is meant to serve as a safehouse for Malton's veteran survivors, and thus requires the Free Running skill to be properly utilized. Survivors who find the building's barricades below their assigned level are asked to assist in raising them back up in order to help ensure the safety of all the survivors staying inside the building. Any survivor found lowering the barricades may be directly "put to the question" by any survivors present at that time. If this happens the accused survivor must present a valid reason for their actions or be labeled a zombie spy/death cultist and be judged accordingly.
History
The Preston Building is the site of the first NecroTech facility to be built in Malton. It was opened in December 1971 despite massive protests from the townsfolk due to NecroTech's highly publicized association with Porton Down. Their rage subsided quickly as NecroTech's presence brought jobs and much-needed biomedical expertise to the suburb. The opening of the Preston Building set the stage for Malton's biotechnology boom of the 70s and 80s, during which numerous biotech start-ups, healthcare providers, pharmaceutical corporations, and medical suppliers established a presence in the city. NecroTech, however, always remained the dominant player in Malton's biotech industry.
In later years, other labs, such as Blackmore and Latrobe, would become larger and more prominent, but it was always the Preston Building which was at the forefront of innovation. The Preston Building not only housed Malton's first Biosafety Level 4 laboratory, but also pioneered the development of the revolutionary Biosafety Level 5 - a level reserved exclusively for man-made pathogens not occurring in nature.
The Preston Building became the center of controversy in 1994, when NecroTech bought out the bankrupt cryonics firm CryoLogistics. At the time of their bankruptcy, CryoLog had acquired over 400 "patients," who were moved into a special facility in the Preston Building for continued cryopreservation. It was not long before internal memos were leaked indicating NecroTech had been using the cryopreserved bodies for research, and dozens of families demanded the return of their loved ones' remains. Some of the bodies have not been recovered to this day; NecroTech officials claim they have no record of ever having received these bodies, and cite CryoLog's poor record-keeping and general managerial disorganization as an explanation.
At the beginning of the Malton outbreak, many of the infected subjects were captured rather than killed, and brought to the Preston Building in specially designed trucks. NecroTech refuses to comment on the fate of these subjects, or on the numerous helicopter flights to and from the Preston Building prior to the facility's final evacuation.
NecroNet Reports
Zombie tracking reports are a free service provided by the NecroTech corporation to all its staff and local survivors in order to help facilitate quicker response times when managing zombie threats and to build a greater awareness of zombie migration patterns within the 9x9 block region around the Preston Building. As a cautious reminder, only those zombies tagged with the DNA Extractor will appear on these scans, so actual numbers may vary when dealing with older zombies (i.e. Brain Rot).
