Bob

Since it's a holiday weekend, I figured I'd start the discussion a bit early. Clearly I'm in favor of a promotion, and it would seem the community is as well, I believe. —Aichon— 15:24, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

• DDR has raised concerns about Bob being another Shortround to happen. I have checkusered around, but found nothing that could suggest such a thing.
• Kirsty has raised the concern that Bob should be protected from himself, but this isn't really our job as crats.
• Also, Bob has made a minor mistake when he failed to archive his A/DE policy. This one is the strongest counter-argument I can come up with, and I am the devil's advocate in this one.

Bob had very good answers for my hypothetical Cornholioo Permaban Appeal scenario, which contained both a lot of wikilaw technicalities and situations without a clear One True Answer. He had caught all of the former, and had good reasoning for the latter.
tl;dr: Short of someone bursting dramatically through the window right at the minute that my finger crawls towards the Promote button, shouting "STOP! HEAR ME! HEAR ME!" and then providing Shocking New Evidence™ that Bob is actually Cornholioo, we should have another sys-op next week. -- Spiderzed█ 16:00, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I think it's always going to be an issue to some extent, and frankly I wasn't even sure if I should be sticking around as a sysop until someone reminded me recently of why I did it in the first place: to help people when they needed it.
A lot of the support is basically personal rather than based at all on wiki stuff, but ultimately I tend to be of the opinion that as long as someone is more help than hindrance that they're worth retaining. Whether that applies in this case is, thankfully, not up to me to decide.

I wouldn't be so fast to dismiss him out of hand - among the joke vouches, there seem to be a few serious ones. Support is however much too mediocre to overturn his lackluster fulfillment of criteria. Its not that i wont be more active. I am watchful in here, periodically checking RC for something to do. And even if i *did* increased my activity, there wouldnt be much for me to do which would ever make me onto the voting guidelines until i lost interest in this thing i am into right now (damn u, ADHD)... unless i went hardcore mode, which i dont plan to.
