What it will do
This policy will allow all images that have been uploaded specific purposes to automatically be protected by a sysop to prevent any upload vandalism occurring and accidental overwriting of the images. Suggested purposes include:
- images that are used for illustrating In-game items
- group logos
- other images that are a permanent part of pages or templates (for example Maps, in the case of suburb pages)
Images used in user signatures may also be requested by the user involved to prevent any accidently overwriting.
How we're gonna do it
Any images currently on the wiki that fall into the above categories can automatically be protected as a result of this policy. Any images uploaded after this point can be protected as and when necessary. Any images that have been missed out may be brought to the attention of the sysop team for protection either at the protections page or just a quick nudge on a sysops talk page.
Why bother?
It has been seen in the past that some vandals overwrite existing images with more offensive ones. For example, imagine the Main Page logo replaced by a goatsie. Or a disgruntled player replacing their rivals group image with an MS Paint rendition of "We suck cocks".
On top of this, some new contributers to the wiki accidentally upload their images over already existing ones and then they get a hell of a lot of grief for a complete accident. This policy aims to prevent both these situations.
Note
Please note that this policy does not mean that the images mentioned above have to be protected. This will just make it easier for a sysop to initiate the protection and if required any protection of an image may be removed so that the image may be deleted or a new version uploaded.
