Description

Malton Police Department

Younghusband Square Police Department is a police department located in the suburb of Rolt Heights along the border with Pescodside to the east. Built in 1967, the police precinct was named in honour of the famous British army officer, Sir Francis Edward Younghusband (1863-1942), the very same man after whom Younghusband Square had also been named. It's said that locals, unfamiliar with the man, for a time went to Baylie Library to research the man, but stopped after several learned other more horrific and mind-shattering truths about the universe from the forbidden tomes hidden within the library. This led people to Google his name instead, and reduce the burden on local insane asylums. Of course these local "historians" (aka, "Googleologists"), were quick to point out that Younghusband was in fact a very fascinating man, taking special care to refer to one particular historical event which they often retold to local students... or anyone who would stay long enough to listen to their ramblings:

"In 1889, Sir Francis Edward Younghusband was dispatched with a small escort of Gurkha soldiers to survey an uncharted region of the Hunza valley and the Khunjerab Pass through the Karakoram mountain range. Whilst encamped in a remote area of Hunza, Younghusband received a messenger at his camp, inviting him to dinner with Captain Bronislav Gromchevsky, his Russian counterpart in "The Great Game". Younghusband accepted the invitation to Gromchevsky's camp, and after dinner the two rivals talked into the night, sharing brandy and vodka, and discussing the possibility of a Russian invasion of British India. Gromchevsky impressed Younghusband with the horsemanship skills of his Cossack escort, and Younghusband impressed Gromchevsky with the rifle drill of his Gurkhas. After their meeting in this remote frontier region, Gromchevsky resumed his expedition in the direction of Kashmir and Younghusband continued his exploration of Hunza."

"The Great Game" proved that with friends like these... you didn't need enemies. (1878)

What all of this had to do with the police station itself is anyone's guess, but it certainly whiled away the time and distracted people from the other more terrible secrets that haunted Rolt Heights. Like why the sewers below the suburb's streets ran thick with blood at midnight during every full moon or the unspeakable "thing" that lurked in Copeland Alley in the dead of night. Those sorts of things.

The police officers from this precinct were among those known to have participated on the major bust against the Russian Mafia drug dealers located at Dunsdon Lane, prior to the "Malton Incident".

Noted NecroTech scientist, Caleb Usher, was last seen at the police station over a year ago, during which time he assisted survivors while working out of the nearby hospitals as they fought against various zombie elements from the Drunken Dead.

Mandate

1) To serve and protect all survivors within a 3x3 block grid (south) of the precinct.
2) To maintain resource building barricades at Very Strongly.
3) To maintain non-resource building barricades within a 3x3 block grid at Extremely Heavily. These buildings will act as safe houses for Free Runners attacking zombie groups in the area.

Affiliates

To date police and military personnel stationed at Younghusband Square PD commonly work with survivors located in nearby resource buildings, namely:

  1. St Herman's Hospital (89,14)
  2. St Ninian's Hospital (90,15) in Pescodside
  3. Treweeke Mall in Dulston

Barricade Policy

Barricades are to be kept at Very Strongly (VS+2) during times when zombie numbers are fewer than 5 within a 2x2 block grid. Should zombie numbers rise above this or reports of nearby resources buildings being overrun be confirmed, then barricades will be raised to Extremely Heavily.

At this time Free Running is essential to entering and departing the Younghusband Square PD and all low-level survivors trapped outside should find shelter at nearby non-resource building further north of the station.

Current Events

November 12th, 2008 - The police station was overrun today. Many survivors died. It was not your typical "good day". The deaths were blamed on zombies associated with the Militant Order of Barhah. Among the dead were even members of the notable Burchell Arms Regulars. Exactly how many survivors died this day is unknown.

September 14th, 2008 - The building was ransacked, but me and some other people escaped. --Undefined

July 23rd, 2008 - Tired to retake it today, but Zeds busted my EHB and killed 2 of the surviors insides. I was barely able to escape to saftey. Looking for more people to help me take it back it seem there is a group of Zeds that keep raiding this buidling. -Boyd

June 15th, 2008 - Barricades are VSB+2. A portable generator has been set up but it´s low on fuel. Standzs 19:40, 15 June 2008 (BST)

March 27th, 2008 - Barricades have fallen and zombies have killed all survivors inside.

March 12th, 2008 - Barricades have been repaired and all zombie threats outside the building have been neutralized.

March 10th, 2008 - Two zombies outside, after killing one.

October 14th, 2007 - The PD is currently secure, however there are unconfirmed reports of the nearby hospitals being overbarricaded.

July 18th, 2007 - The barricades are down at the PD. With several zeds are in the area this could mean trouble.

April 11th, 2007 - After several days of hit-and-run murders the PKer Alliance attacked the precinct at full strength. While reports are sketchy, it was confirmed that D4rkness was among the PKA members who descended upon the building to attack its inhabitants. By the end of the slaughter 6 survivors were reported dead.

April 10th, 2007 - The Rolt Heights War rages with Southbound Pachyderm and gabrieltrance were its latest victims at the police station. The serial killer reported to have killed them was none other than Sadie Mae Glutz of Red Rum. This senseless murder would later be avenged by the Burchell Arms Regulars who tracked down Sadie to an abandoned factory and gunned her down in a hail of bullets.

April 8th, 2007 - More fallout from the Rolt Heights War as the survivor population at the precinct continues to dwindle from constant attacks by murderers allied to the PKer Alliance. Today the victim was David Wooderson who was killed by Shadowean.

April 7th, 2007 - An innocent survivor, fireman norman was killed by notorious murderer Shadowean, of Red Rum fame, today while he was eating a meatloaf sandwich. It was also reported that after killing the fireman Shadowean also stole his sandwich. This report though has never been confirmed.

April 6th, 2007 - The Rolt Heights War claimed the life of Vance Lotane who was murdered by care-free Red Rum killer knwon only as Sohee. The Burchell Arms Regulars would later execute Sohee in a fierce gunfight at Club Popham over in Gibsonton as part of this all-out struggle for dominance within Rolt Heights.

April 4th, 2007 - The Burchell Arms Regulars reported that there were 7 zombies spotted outside Younghusband Square PD. Survivors are warned to stay on guard and protect against their siege attempts. The B.A.R will no doubt send assistance as soon as possible.

September 3rd, 2006 - A survivor, OmegaPaladin, reported that Younghusband Square PD was overrun with 19 zombies still inside, and more zombies wandering outside in nearly every local building.

July 6th, 2006 - In the wee hours of the morning a large group of Ridleybank Resistance Front zombies broke the quite in Younghusband Square PD by tearing down its barricades, dragging out sleeping survivors, and slaughtering all in the general vicinity.

January 25th, 2006 - The Drunken Dead Pub Crawl has begun! Their first stop was Younghusband Square PD, where the Drunken Dead raided the confiscated goods locker and found several humans sleeping behind the booze. A predictable result followed, with the zombies using their claws and teeth to kill humans without waking a single one of them.
