History

Known for years as a 'rowdy' cinema, Shyar had a reputation for midnight screenings and occasional rioting. Past film festivals included unsuitable for all and Girls with power tools. It was quite a popular place before the Outbreak, too, with late-night specials earning the theatre hundreds of dollars a night. However, over the weekends, the film screen was whisked away and a local high school drama club would perform for a small group of attendees, mainly parents and school faculty. Admission to the performances was free, and many community-oriented frequented them for entertainment. Popular plays included A Midsummer Night's Dream and Macbeth by William Shakespeare.

At the time of the Outbreak, the survivors inside were enjoying the recently-released movie Munich. Steven Spielberg was a favorite among the locales. When the moan of zombies became audible, the movie was up to the part with the phosphorus bomb and, with everyone's attention diverted to the film, no one realized the imminent threat until far too late. Everyone inside was infected within twenty minutes of zombies entering the building, and the mini-horde proceeded to lay waste to nearby Leaman Grove School.
